I've been depressed for 6 years now and have tried so many different meds and spn's and therapists but last month I just felt like there was no hope and nothing would work ive tried it all my mum noticed a change in my mood and got me to the doctor's and I have major depression so he put me on Citalopram and I felt great within a week but still found evry day tasks in possible like washing the dishes ect. and I was still having angry outbursts there is only so much you can hide from the ones closest to us so I asked my doctor if I could try and take 20mg and ive been feeling much better but now I wonder if I take 30mg would that improve me more? anyone in the same position? could do with some advice....thanks in advance
oh and my doctor said that if I wanted to try another 10mg just to do it but I dont know ifI should often when I get put up thing go very wrong so saying im afraid is an understatement
Jade. I'm not sure if upping ur dose will help right now. From the posts I have read in here it seems like 20 mg's is the magic dose. But i'm not a doctor. I would wait a bit longer if I was you, especially if ur starting to feel better. Try waiting a bit to see if more experienced ppl in here will reply to ur questions/concerns and U can make a sound decision on which way to proceed. Good luck!!
Hi Jade
I was ill for 15 years, and nothing helped me, but as soon as I was put onto SSRI meds I recovered within 6 months on 20mg.
Recovery often comes in waves, so you might start feeling great to then have a big dip - don't worry, this is quite normal on these meds and might be like that through to recovery, with each dip getting less intense until they finally stop.
With each dose increase you will probably get side effects, and it's best to let them settle each time before increasing again. Different doses suit different people, and a larger dose won't necessarily suit you as it would someone else. Your body will tell you. Don't rush through doses as you can't hurry recovery - it'll happen in its own time for you. Again everyone is different with this timescale.
Take things slowly. The meds take a long time to get to the full effect so you're bound to have symptoms still. Increase to 20mg as your doctor suggested, but then stay on this dose for a few months because this might be the dose for you. No point in taking more than you need to.

hello kate
I found your message very helpful thanks for the advice I cant imagine having to live like that foe 15 years im glad your feeling better now and now I see hope for myself in the future I will take my time your right I cant rush it even though I wish I could...dont we all.
thanks agin jade x
It was pretty tough, but it has made me appreciate life so much more now. Try taking a more relaxed way - slow down a little, eat healthily, walk daily, go to bed at a reasonable time, try and relax towards each wave, let the meds do their work and in time you should see results.
