Hi all,
I have mild crohns which was diagnosed September 2016.
I've taken steriods and autoimmune supressants which worked but also gave me side effects.
I am now in remission says the doctor from my last colonoscopy however I still experience some mild pain.
Has anyone else been through this?
Hi Grace
Yes absolutely.
I was diagnosed early 2015 when in flare and symptoms were horrendous. Steroids brought the inflammation down and azathioprine and subsequently 6-MP maintained the status quo.
I had a bad reaction to Azathioprine after 2 months and similar liver/pancreas contraindications after 6 months on 6-MP.
I have been on Humira injections for about 9 months now and am generally well but still suffer mild pain in certain areas. Notably lower right side below ribs. I also suffer constant bloating before and after eating.
I need to eat at least every 3 hours or am consumed by stomach pain which does not easily go when I get to finally eat. So it's best to keep it at bay by eating little and often.
I saw specialist last week who said my blood readings are all within acceptable limits and I'd continue with Humira for foreseeable future.
Good luck
Pete
I take a medication called pentasa, it keeps inflamation down and prevents future flare ups. Maybe ask your doctor about it, its not as strong as steriods which is good. I have moderate- severe crohns and it works for me. Its never given me any bad side effects. I also reccomend getting a doctor specificaly for crohns. Also stay away from greasy fried foods, spicy, and processed foods.
