Incision site pain relief and diet suggestions?

I am currently 8 days post op, I did not now I was going to have surgery until that day after going to the hospital with the worst RUQ pain that had been constant and made worse by any movements for 2 days.

Long story short I had a stone lodged that caused my gallbladder to become infected and needed it removed.

I am recovering well except the pain of the umbilicus incision. The other three incisions itch as they heal which is normal. The incision near the umbilicus is painful. Is there anything that I can put on it? It's currently Saturday and I don't want to call the emergency line for the surgeon since this is not an emergency.

I did return to my job as a radiologic technologist after day 5 post op I'm not sure if that was too soon or not, but I did have restrictions that were followed so I was not pushing or pulling any patient carts and only did studies on ambulatory patients.

Also, what all were you able to eat without too much issue about a week after surgery? I am struggling with eating too much more than saltines and the other bland food they told me to follow the first few days. Anything that isn't in the bland diet causes stomach aches and/or diarrhea.

Thank you all for your help!

I think you went back to work too early , you are supposed to take 3 weeks off.

You need to rest more , it's major surgery ! I still feel tired 7 months later .

Just stick to bland foods for now , you will know when to start adding things back

Into your diet . Rest more . Good Luck.

Thank you Linda! My surgeon told me as long as I followed my restrictions work should not be a problem but I think that it was as well. I am going to take it more easy.

I hope that you start to get more energy back into your life after your operation soon!
