So… long story short.
i had sex with my ex BF on Mon (we’ve had continuous sex for the past 3 years) and then that same week sat night i had sex with a friend which included him giving me oral (of course the one time i decide to send caution to the wind)… sunday morning i woke up with what felt like a rash between my butt cheeks and it burned when i peed… thursday morning felt a bump and went to get tested… Dr took a look, said it didnt look like herpes but lets swab culture and a blood test.
three weeks later i got my test back. culture said positive for hsv2, negative for everything else, blood came out completely negative.
my dr and i understood this meant i was newly infected (ive never had any other issues so made sense). when trying to figure out who i got it from, i assumed the friend, he assumed the ex bf due to the timeframe of intimacy and breakout.
both got tested after, blood test igg.
ex bf came back negative for everything.
friend came back negative for hsv2 but positive for hsv1 (after i told him about my diagnosis before i got my results he told me he gets “canker sores” on his lips since he was a kid).
my ex (who had left me to go back to his babymama and has spent the last year undecisive between us 2) obvi has had sex with her and myself. she is also negative.
my friend claims his last sexual encounter was back in Nov. 5 months before me.
we are all going to get retested at the 3 months mark.
but my question is this : is it possible my culture could have been wrong? i dont understand how everyones blood test came back negative and no one else has had symptoms ever, only me this one time.
i had no other pain or flu like stymptoms, just literally the burning when i peed and i saw the bump (which never burst). and the pee burning wasnt even umbarable, just uncomfortable.
Swab test is absolutely correct, it can not test positive for a virus that isnt there since it tests for the live virus.
blood tests can be wrong, specially depending on the type of test.
IGG type blood test is the most accurate. IGM can often be wrong.
With your blood test being negative its likely you were recently exposed so it would have to be one of the two.
Either 1 is lying, or one was recently exposed to the virus as well, or had the wrong test done.
HSV1 can not turn into HSV2. So, if the ex is telling the truth about only having HSV1, and he wasnt recently exposed, he didnt give it to you.
The friend, if hes being honest about the last time he had any kind of sex (even if it was receiving just oral sex), would test positive if he got the right test.
Unless he specifically asked to be tested for herpes, he may not have even been tested for it at all (if he just asked for an STD test).
All to say, theres no possible way to get a false positive on a swab! it’s the absolute most reliable way to test.
But at the end of the day, you may never find out, and its something you may have to come to terms with. It doesnt change the fact that you have it, and youve made the possible carriers aware, now its on them.
thanks for the reply!
i was hoping for a slight chance of it being wrong! lol
i saw both test results (done right after mine) and they both came out negative for hsv2 on igg. im making them both go again when i go for the 4 month mark blood test .
it sucks when they come back with a negative and treat you like if you are the dirty one who almost “destroyed” their life. and they are living as if they dont have it, yet one gave it to me.
and the “friend” tested postive for hsv1 and chlamydia.
i have read that it takes at least 2-20 but commonly 2-7 days to show up. but is it possible for it to show up newly infected the next day?
crazy how theres no definitive test, guess this is why it will always be the gift that keep on giving
