I just recently visited my doctor and we increased my citalopram dose from 20 to 30 mg. The reason was that for two weeks I had heightened anxiety and a bout of migraines. I have been on citalopram for about 6 years. I originally began cit due to post partum anxiety and it helped majorly. I do remember that some of my symptoms (no appetite, night tremors and sweating racing thoughts, insomnia, diarrhea) were heightened when I began the med. I am once again experiencing these same symptoms. Is this normal for a mg increase? The doctor also prescribed a low dose xanax for the interim which I have been trying to use at night to sleep but it has not done the trick. My questions are....does this sound like normal routine with an increase? How long will the increased symptoms continue? It's making me feel helpless and crazy! Any support and advice I appreciate!
Totally normal :-). Unfortunately, each time we increase on these meds we often get those unpleasant side effects.
It varies how long they last. Some lucky people are over it within days; others it takes weeks. When I started Citalopram 5 years ago, my insomnia was the last side effect to go, and that took a few months.
Thanks for responding. Just hearing it's normal helps me hold on until I can get back to feeling my normal self again. Crazy sleep throws me off so bad.
Had a great day yesterday...felt very normal other than sweating a lot! I thought I may already be adjusting to the 30 mg dose. But then today I had to wake up with my two sons at 5am and go on a flight away from my husband for 9 days. I think I really taxed my system as I already have anxiety in regards to flying and now being away from my husband is a double whammy. I am feeling nauseous, dizzy, loopy eyes, SUPER exhausted and yucky gut. I'm hoping a good rest and sleep tonight gets me back to another good day. Any support is super welcomed as reading these posts are getting me thru! Thanks!
