After diagnosis I was put onto daily suppression meds valiclovir.
I also take lysine daily and drink pineapple juice and take Epsom baths frequently.
Before going on these tablets I would have an outbreak every few weeks/months
Now I'm on them I feel constantly itchy and constantly flared up
The itch is so horrible that I try to avoid but end up wearing holes in my underwear
Has anybody else found that these tablets don't help? I was mainly on them because they lower risk of transmission but I am no longer with my partner and I don't plan on having sexual contact any time soon
I was doing some reading and it is said that valtrex doesn't work for some people and isn't as strong as that alyvocore or whatever.. Not sure how to spell it. Seems the people in the UK get prescribed that and in the states we get valtrex. I have had this for 6 months and I have multiple obs a month and symptoms every day. I recently upped my daily dose to 1000mlgs a day and it has cut down on the multiple times a day I felt that crawly feeling on the back of thighs and buttock, but I still breakout on it. Especially while on my period. In fact, this ob while on my period right now, was more intense than others. So I myself have wondered about the valtrex. I know when I tried not to take it after my first ob, I was itchy like you. I am itchy every day, but not too much.
If you're not w your partner anymore, I'd just stop taking it.
Did you get this while w your partner? So sorry to hear. were you able to prevent transmission to your partner? Even w having sex when itchy?
Were you constantly itchy before starting the valtrex though?

I was just havig the breakouts.
I was diagnosed when with him but had the symptoms for about a year.
He didn't contract it. I never had sex if I had itched and there was raw skin
But it sounds strange
Sometimes if there was a tingle or slight itch and I would have sex it would go away? Not sure if it's because of natural lubrication or my mindset being like "no. I am going to be normal and have normal sex"
But it seemed to go away for that period of time. I have noticed with this breakup though that stress definitely increases itchiness.
I have also noticed since being on the tablets that my breasts are itchy all the time too
To the point where I develop blood blisters from itching? Another side effect maybe?
It sounds like you may be allergic to valtrex. I've read about others being allergic to it, even after taking it for two urs, they suddenly developed an allergy to it.
I was itching more not on it. I am a high strung person and like you said, stress will make you break out more. This is the worst disease doe someone like me, to get, because I am always stressed out.
I think you should just stop taking it and see what happens. You weren't breaking out too much prior to it. Did it do this to uoi, when u took it for an ob?
I can tell you, I had strange aide effects when I upped the dose to 1000. Whrni first started taking valtrex on a daily basis, I had horrific headaches.. I never get headaches. Eventually they stopped the longer I was on it. Then when I upped my dose to 1000, I started having severe pain in my jaw, specifically the joint area. At first I didn't know what was going on and thought I had a tooth ache maybe. I had pain behind my face and on the back of my tongue, like where it attaches I to the throat, but only on the right side w a bad headache of course. Eventually I put two and two together and realized it was the valtrex. It was so bad, I had to take 800mlg of motrin every four hrs.. I'd say after two weeks on it, it stopped hurting. I was able to find something where it said that it could cause jaw pain or joint pain.. I was shocked that jt did that w my jaw... Weird
BTW.. You're supposed to refrain from sex if you have any tingle and itch. I dunno.. Cause I'm SOL them, cause that's every day of my life.. as if I needed anymore baggage! Lol
