Increasing Citalopram dosage?

I’ve used 10mg of  Citalopram over 5 years for approximately 6-8 months of the year (Seasonal Affective Disorder). But this year when I’d normally be thinking of coming off it, I’m really struggling. I also had a baby a few months ago so am aware that post natal issues may be a factor here too. I’ve been on a max of 40mg in the past and felt so dopped up and ill, I had to reduce and found that only on 10mg did I feel clear headed and well overall.

I’d be interested to hear of others who have increased dosage. I’m wondering whether it’s worth just tolerating it all at the current dosage in hope that things pick up as they have done in the past over the next few weeks or to just increase dosage now and accept it’s just different this year for whatever reason?

Hi Michell,My old Dr years ago told me this drug is poison.BUT if you get a better quality of like it is worth it.Trying to come off it seems to be the problem.I have very good reasons for taking it,but now after 19 years of it,I need to get my brain back.Still have good reason to take it,but the side effects are horrible. You have a baby to care for so try to cut down to a low dose, and in time the black fog will ease.I have started back at the gym,a struggle and feel like I am getting somewhereI also have OCD so the brain does things. This drug has a place in life, but Doctors should inform people in full about the effects of getting rid of it.My new Doctor did not know how difficult it could be.Keep going,Keep busy,Keep active Be positive.

I too suffer from SAD and stay on citalopram all year, now that Spring is around the corner maybe the dose you are on is enough. My SAD often doesn't completely clear up until the end of Spring after lots of bright light.
