Infecting others

I am very curious about every ones experience with infecting and/or protecting others

No judgement...

What if any protections do you use

Have you ever infected anyone, what were the circumstances?

Have you slept with someone and not infected them, what were the circumstances?

Do you use antivirals? Condoms?

I will start:

Had herpes 20 years without knowing it.I thought i had chronic bv. Apparently i was having mild internal outbreaks triggered by sex.

-1 partner unprotected sex in a 6 mo relationship, he didnt catch it)

-1partner unprotected sex in a 3 year relationship (hes not infected)

-1 current partner 8 mo relationship. (He has no symptoms but hasnt been tested)

Oh yea

I am female with male partners

No disrespect why so many partners

lol

I feel like 3 in 20 years isnt very much for a single person

That's not a lot of people in 20 years...

She's only had three in 20 years, that's a lot?? One of them she was with three years. That seems on the low end to me. 😳

I'm single and have had two partners this year. If three is a lot in 20 and I've had two in a year I guess I'm running wild. Lol

Oh okay you right

How soon after first outbreak did u have unprotected sex

lol... okay... I guess its really 4 people.

I had unprotected sex with a guy 20 years ago.  About 2-3 days later I came down with my first "infection".  Went to doc who gave me antibiotics and it cleared up shortly after. Since then I have never had intercourse without getting another "infection".   For 20 years docs have been giving me antibiotics and sending me on my way.  Herpes never came up.

Turns out it was herpes all the time.  Never knew until about2 weeks ago.  All this time I thought I had some strange bacteria.  I either didnt get lesions, or they are internal.

Anyway.....   I think I am unique since i was having unprotected sex with no precautions.  I was lucky not to have infected people.  Its a good thing I didnt have more partners.

I am very curious about others experience of virus transmission to others.

Good conversation, stacey.  I am newly diagnosed (HSV1 (g)) and want to know all I can about shedding -- especially with HSV1 where there are fewer (if any more at all) outbreaks.  The shedding rate is 3-5% of days, but is there anything it's tied to? I'm post menopausal,so I don't have monthly cycles any more.  Until I learn more, relationships (and sex) are off my plate.  Sadly.....

I understand I avoided sex with my ex wife for 8 months then while on antivirals sex was better than better

I am also very interested in hearing about how people have intercourse without infecting their partner. I am dating this guy that doesn't have anything and he is nervous because he doesn't want to jeapordise his health to have intercourse with me. I am newly diagnosed with HSV-1(g) and have looked up some stuff but most of it is for genital herpes which I don't have. Anyone know any statistics on the chances of passing it to another person. Is there a way to have safe sex again if so what. Anything will be greatly appreciated. Have been looking for an answer and so far not able to find one linked with HSV-1 genital.

I have not passed it on to anyone but then again I was just diagnosed about a month ago so haven't really felt like having sex but with the new guy there has been talk but I keep holding back because I am scared to infect him and I know he is scared too.

Sabrina, unfortunately, What i know is about type 2

But from what i understand about shedding is that it is most just before an outbreak, in the prodromal period. Some oeople have signs in this period like tingling etc. i am not sure if this is the same for type 1

Kenneth,

Do you use condoms or just rely on the antivirals. Is your wife still virus free?

I had sex during an outbreak unprotected before I knew I had it...and he didn't get it...

Noelle, that gives me hope.

I recently had unprotected sex during an outbreak. A doc had given me a diagnosis of vulvodynia and gave me lidacaine to make sex easier. Of course i really had sneakey unseen internal lesions, not vulvodynis. I have been sick thinking there is no way i didnt infect him. This was 3 mos ago though, hes had no symptoms.

Also sabrina, there is another forum for hs1 on patient

Maybe they know over there

Although you think it was from 20 years ago, you don't know for sure, and nobody can be said to be uninfected unless they actually tested negative for it after the window period. There are many asymptomatic folk out there who have no signs or clue, but they are nevertheless positive. Just sayin'.

You do have genital herpes, so long as it's in your genital area. Think you meant to say most info you looked up is on Type 2 GH. The transmission rate percentages are only for Type 2, that's true.

I use condoms until I found good research
