Suregery done 5 wks ago, after going off drops, pain became severe. Diagnosed with an infection (endophthalmitis). Had 2 injections of antibiotics in the eye, and they drew fluid to culture. It's better today, but still on hourly drops, keeping eye dialted, and antibiotic pills. My need more injections. Any one have this? Or know how long it takes to clear up?
Did you get this infection immediately after cataract surgery or 5 weeks after? It sounds like its gotten better after the recent injections. How are you feeling now?
The dr thinks it's been there since about 1-2 wks after surgery. I missed my drops for a day, and it got really sore, just like ti did after the 5 wks, but the drops were keeping it from swelling. I am feeling better, dr said yesterday it's improving. I go again tomorrow and Friday.
that is rather odd. Did you start the drops 3 days ahead of the surgery and continue 7 days later. I was using zymax.
I just had cataract surgery done yesterday. I am 39 years old. I was NOT presecribed drops before the surgery, at all. Is this odd? I had drops the day of surgery, obviously, and have now been prescribed drops, which I need to take 4 times daily, for one week
Yes that is very very odd. You are to start antibiotics drop 3 days ahead of surgery.as well as acuvail drops 4 times a day. This is standard procedure - for both infection and inflamation.
antibiotics drop off after 7 days; but acuvail, steriod drop remain for 4 weeks
yea, i wasn't prescribed any steriods. Just the anti-biotic drops, post-OP. My doctor has done thousands of these, so I imagine he knows what he's doing.
That is not possible.... you are supposed to have a steroid drop to lower edema and other complications from healing as well inflamation prevention with acuvail. This is standard practise in South Africa, Australia and Canada.
I am in the USA.
USA should have similar guidelines because of CME, the steriod/NSAID is always given to prevent any complications. I checked US opthamology guidelines, they are the same.

I'll ask my DR. on my next visit why he doesnt do steriods / anti-inflammatory and drops pre-op. I do know others from the USA on this site have mentioned that they weren't prescribed pre-op drops or post-op steriods.
