THR six weeks ago today. Doing brilliantly until a couple of weeks ago. Now due back in hospital on Monday for debridement and re-suturing due to infection. Any advice welcome.
Hi, where are you, uk or us? what type of repair and hip replacement did you have? This might help answer your question
Hope you get well
I had a very similar experience and had my I&D and revision March 4. I had to undergo 6weeks of daily antibiotic infusions and currently taking oral antibiotic for 3 months. I have no evidence of infection now. My hip has continued to improve throughout and I have no pain at all since 3weeks out. The infection took a toll but I’m about 85% normal in 7weeks. Hang in there! My total experience in 9 months (5 hip dislocations and 3 revision surgeries) is extreme and rare. Ywill resume you excellent recovery soon. Best wishes for Monday. Deborah
not a repair, a total hip replacement in the UK
thanks Deborah
Hi
I’ve just spent 18 days in hospital right hip revision 2 dislocation 3 operations and 1 blood transfusion, been home 2 weeks tomorrow but yesterday started getting a temperature in the 100’s my scars still very sore and I’ve generally not felt well. My stitches are due to come out tomorrow but it surprises me that no one checks them for so long? The original op was glued and this was good but this time round it’s been cut twice so stitches were needed.
I hope it’s not infected and that I’ve just picked up a bug?
Can’t bare the thought of hospital again.
Good luck
Had repair op on Monday evening. Problem was the long initial stitch which didn’t dissolve and became embedded and infected. Now single stitches. Came home Tuesday and got to return for dressing changes every couple of days and then stitches removed after 12 days. I, too, felt that if the original wound had been checked by someone the problem would have been sorted without the addition pain, op and travel to and fro to the hospital on numerous occasions since reporting it, and having to rely on friends’ kindness driving me. Good Luck.
