Hi All, Firstly thank you for everyones good wishes, prayers, hugs and garden flowers. It has meant so much to me I'm awaiting a discharge this afternoon, it will be so lovely to get home. After the 2 wash outs, its been confirmed that its definately infected, almost certainly from the first aspiration! I've been given a Hickman line[ access to artery by my collar bone] to be given IV antibiotics, for possibly 6 weeks, this will be under constsnt review. The plan is for giving the tissue transer from my tummy to my hip a couple of months, to establish a better blood supply. THen I'll have to come back to hospital to have the hip removed.Possibly for 4 months or so and unfortunately as I have lost so much muscle, no spacer can be put in. Ultimately I will have no use in that leg during this process. So long as it shows that all bacerior is gone, then we can get some metal work back. Its such a shame as the hip I've got now is the best I've had since I broke it nearly 7 years ago. The surgeon has told me that I've got less than a 5% chance of not having to have the hip out. Not great odds, still better than none. I,m will still be looking at wheelchairs and stair lifts etc. Love to everyone Patsy X
I thought my experience was bad, but I've had it really easy compared to you! Hang on in there and good luck!
Dear Patsy
Thanks for your update. May I say you are one very, very brave lady!
Best wishes
Richard
Oh, Patsy, what a trial, so many steps, so much disability. Wishing you all of the best as you progress through these stages. ❤️😍💜
How dreadful for you. I was warned this might happen to me, and it was the only scary bit - that I wouldn't be able to manage if this happened. You are so confident about it all, I admire you.
Oh Patsy, I feel so sorry about what you're going through. I wish you all the best, Judith
I wish you the best!!! I'm a candidate for hip surgery for both! I'm praying they heal themselves!!!!
Best to you!! Hugs
Patsy
That sounds pretty tough. But they seem to be doing some serious stuff to get rid of the infection. My surgeon didn't want me to take antibiotics until the old metalwork was out. I had to wait 3 months for the first stage then 6 weeks antibiotics (mostly pills) and now I'm waiting for stage 2 due 12th July. But I get about OK on crutches so it's not too bad. Hopefully you will be able to use crutches a bit,. non weight bearing.
Good luck
Mike
