Recently been told by GP I could have ibs as had all the symptoms except my esr blood test was high which means inflammation. So have repeated the test and awaiting the results. I keep reading that inflammation is NOT a symptom of ibs but was wondering if anyone on here has inflammation with it ?
Some people with IBS have inflammation in their colon which is not high enough to be IBD. Their calprotectin level may be higher than those without IBS. The ESR test shows inflamnation in the body but will not tell the doctor exactly where it is. Ask for a fecal calprotectin test to see if there is any inflammation in the bowel.
Thanks Pippa. Now my results have come back as borderline, so not sure what that means?!
If the result is borderline, your doctor may wait for a short time to see if your level goes back down on its own and then will retest you. If the level is the same or higher, you may need further investigations done.
