Ingrown toe nail, can NHS help?

Hi everyone,

Thank you for coming to this thread.

I have an in grown toe nail in my left foot on my big toe, ew I know !

It is so painful when I work and go to the gym and puss came out of it the other day. It used to be up and down but it is always up.

I looked to see if I could go to a Podiatrist but they charge in excess of £250 and I would hazard an educated guess that I will require an LA.

My question is can I visit my local GP ? I’m afraid they will tell me to go away and stop wasting their time. I can’t afford the amount of money Podiatrists charge privately but I can’t tell it the NHS would do it for me either at a reduced rate or free of charge.

I feel awful wanting to use our amazing NHS for such a minor issue but I can’t keep on with the pain after like 3 weeks now…

If anyone can help with my issue I would appreciate it a lot.

Hi Chris,
I’m no expert on this and I haven’t had this issue myself, but I was wondering if there was anything you could get from a local pharmacy (or over the counter) type of medication or advice even.

Perhaps you could try this to start with, but in the meantime I think going to your GP would be a good resort, especially as it is causing troubles to your daily activities (going to work, gym etc.)

Sorry if this seemed like ‘stating the obvious’ but I also hope it helps you out too.

Thank you for replying, I wanted to avoid going to the GP so I didn’t waste their time but it’s getting to the point where I’ll have to go I think.
