Hi . I'm hoping for advice regarding ingrown toenail which has become infected.
i had hip replacement 5 months ago but wasn't sure whether to ask doctor for anti biotics , since I was told to notify doctor in case of infection,
this seems quite trivial to bother doc with but it's painful!
thank you.
Carol
Hi Carol please don't put off seeing your GP a minor infection in certain circumstances can change quite quickly, make sure its clean and dressed and see GP tomoz, better safe than sorry
Hi Carol,
I was told before my operation by my dental hygienist that she would not clean my teeth unless my surgeon prescribed some medicine before the cleaning. I’d get in touch with your surgeon.
Steve
Carol you will need antibiotics in any event. When I had surgery on my foot they didnt give me antibs for the nerve removal but did for when they removed bone in toes. You will prob benegit from seeing a chiropodist as well to ease the nail up.
Hi Carol
You probably cant even get down to your toenail yet to treat it yourself so my advice is to see a podiatrist and.or doctor to have it treated. Dont let it go on any longer.
All the best.
Get to a podiatrist and fast. Those things can be awful.
Thank you for your replies.
Been quite a peculiar response from my GP. Managed to get an emergency appointment this evening. Right toe very red, swollen and sore. Left toe not too bad.
Doc examined it and said I should have anti biotic. Told her I couldn’t take penicillin . She wrote prescription for erythromycin but said it will probably react with another med I take and could possibly cause cardio problems so get tablets but don’t take them unless foot is really bad. ! Still trying to work this out.
I see chiropodist on Friday thankfully! X
