:zzz: :twisted: Just come off effexor cos of side effects, have only taken 1 15mg tab. its horrendous!. Took tablet at 10pm slept like a baby GREAT! but the next day felt totally pissed/hungover all day unable to operate and I still feel the same 48hrs later. I am self employed and have to work and I wont find a slot where i can persevere to get used to mertazapine. This is the fifth antidepressant I have tried and am now losing faith in the medical profession.....Where or what next!?
These are all potent mind / mood altering drugs, as you have discovered its unrealistic to expect to carry on normally, take a few weeks off, give it a little more time 
I did manage to work the first few weeks although advised to take time off. It must be hard if you are self employed though. The drowsiness that continues throughout the day is worse in the first month of taking mirtazapine. Hope you can persevere with it. I thought at the time if I stopped working that I would not want to go back again and I would feel much worse. Try to stick with it.
I only took 1 15mg tablet at night as prescribed, I too slept like a baby, woke up and needed the toilet, managed to get to the loo then collapsed, after the wife brought me back round (major panic) I managed to get back to bed, but it was like walking on marshmallows, slept like a baby again then felt the worst I've ever felt. 3 days later and the effects have finally worn off...don't think I'll be able to take any more, the doctor says fainting is a bad side affect, which obviously is not good.
Now not sure what to do, seeing the psychiatrist in 6 weeks time but he's expecting me to be taking mertazapine by then...might phone and see what he thinks..dont know.
