hi every body i want to ask you about Intatympaniqye injection of gentamicine if any one try it before and if we can recover our balance after the operation or not
I had four injections of Gentamicin over a period of 12 months and it did stop my menieres attacks. I was told it would cause some acute dizziness / balance problems for a short time and that I would adapt over a few weeks.
The reality for me was that I did not suffer acute dizziness or balance problems but lower level chronic problems which stayed with me for some time say over a year. I think my problem was compounded by other stresses in my life which also seemed to cause dizzinessand poor balance.
My take on things is that without the stress suffered my dizziness would have been almost nil sooner than a year. My balance was never too bad but did suffer bouncing vision symptoms when walking for some time.
Now some 3 years later I do not get much dizziness and balance is ok unless I amin ultra stimulating visual and auditory environments.

Do they affect your hearing??? As I suffer from MD and take betahistine and amitryptiline. My consultant has suggested the injections but said they can affect hearing. I already have poor hearing and wear 2 hearing aids so I dont want to lose anymore hearing.Many Thanks.
I can only comment on my experience but whilst my hearing was not good on the treated side it has not been made worse.
I am on a clinical trial with this - one injection each quarter - I have just had the 2nd one today. I haven't had vertigo since the first one - but it may just be down to being less stressed.
I will have my 4th weekly gentamicine in jection Tuesday. I do have
balance problems which began after the 2nd injection. I am hopeful
my balance will begin improving soon. I have not had an episode of
Menieres for two weeks. My attacks had become more severe and
frequent the past two months and were extremely disabling. Good luck!
