Injection

Hi all its been awhile.
I had my left hip replaced earlier this year
I have been having problems with my right hip and had an injection into my right hip so the doctor can see if the pain is coming from my hip or not. I keep a diary of any changes and see him in 7 days to discuss results.
Has anyone else had this and how does it work?

Hi Barry, I had an injection done with dye in my right hip when I first had issues with constant pain. The dye is injected into the area between the joints where the natural lubricating fluid is located. Then I had an MRI. The dye will show if there are any tears or leaking of the fluid. My test results showed that I had a Labral Tear. This was fixed with surgery. j Hope this helps:)

hi i have my left hip replaced in august 2016 and then started to have alot of pain in my right hip. I saw my consultant and had a injection in the hip to see if it helped. It did so they knew it was my hip. After an xray to see how bad it was came back as no where near bad enough I asked for an MRI (i knew it was worse than the xray showed). My consultants secretary rang me a week or so after to say i urgently needed a RTH. i had the operation in december 2017. My recovery was slower because even though my left hip felt great i lacked confidence to use it as my better leg. all things considered my pain has gone from a 10 to an ocassional 2 xx

Thank you for both your comments. The injection identified the hip Was The cause of the pain and I am now having a hip replacement in January. Both hips done in 10 months, not bad.

I found an injection did not work at all, but it may have been the person who gave it. I had a hip replacement in the end. They do recommend you do not have a hip replacement operation within six months if having an injection according to my GP.

Hi ptolemy My injection was not a steroid but a painkiller which aleviated the pain for half a day and then came back. This told the surgeon the pain was radiating definitely from the hip hence the operation in January

Ah that makes sense. I hope the operation goes well.
