Injury to knee after TKR

I had TKR on my left knee a year and a half ago. After surgery and rehab, I have done very well and been very pleased with the results. However, today I tripped and fell on concrete directly on my left knee. I have swelling and tightness, but mostly pain when I bend my knee on the under side of it. Has anyone had this to happen and if so, was there damage to your new knee?

What are you waiting for ! Go and see your GP or go to the emergency department. You need a thorough exam and probably an x-ray.

Do not wait around but get it looked at promptly. It may well only be bruised or have a sprain of the ligaments but if you have a fracture it needs intervention

I agree fully with Sheila. One person could fall and nothing happen and another could fall and have a serious injury. This is only something your doctor can figure out and only then will you have peace of mind...at least that's the only time I would. And hopefully, it's nothing serious. But you won't know until you have it checked out.

It's pretty hard to damage the prosthesis . I fell the day after my revision and did a twist fracture of the femur. It was a 20° beeN from the inside of the knee to the outside. I had a metal plate inserted and screwed into the bone from the hip to the knee. All of that and no damage to the prosthesis however;t hat still wouldnt dismiss the fact there couldn't be soft tissue bruising and damage. Of course a simple Dr a u won't show much but if there appears to b e e massive swelling and bruising bruising quick trip to your doc or e.urgency ro:-/om would be in order. In the meantime icing and elevation is definitely warrented

Thanks so much; have been both icing and elevating. Hoping it's just bruised. Will keep taking ibuprofen for inflammation and, if it's not better by Monday, will call my Ortho for a check.

Going to ice and elevate, along with ibuprofen and, if it's not better by Monday, then off to the Ortho I go! I'm like you though: better safe than sorry. Thanks

I'm not the luckiest of people! If it's not better after ice/elevation/ibuprofen, then I'll definitely get checked out. To be honest, I wasn't even sure that it could be damage...iI like to think of it as 'bionic'! Thanks for your comment. It's my first time on the forum!

good luck, hope things are not too serious stay in touch

I am 7 months post TKR and fell onto a hard floor. It swelled up and got tight, I raised and iced it straight away and did so for the next week or so. Thankfully I didnt do any damage but it flipping hurt at the time, but if it doesn't get any better you might need to get it checked out.
