inpatient treatment advice needed please

I'm really sorry for cross posting this on the depression and anxiety forums but I suffer with both..

After one of the worst days I have had in such a long time I am seriously considering referring myself for short-term inpatient treatment.

I am just struggling too much, I need real help. I can't stop crying and hurting, I'm so stressed and feel like I am dying.. I need help to feel alive again sad

Can anyone offer any advice on the topic? I'm based in the UK, but open to any advice or suggestions..

Hello. I too suffer from both anxiety and depression. Its ok to cry and I know it hurts. Especially when you cant pinpoint why you are crying.

Firstly, do you have someone at home with you? If not do you have someone you can call who will just listen?

I have a number for a helpline which you can call anonymously and they will calm you down and listen. Its 08088002234.

Do you have anxiety attacks? BTW if I suddenly dissappear or dont answer my internet is being repaired today but I will answer you as soon as it starts working again.

In patient treatment is good but a last resort as its not a quick fix and you still have to go back out into the big wide world.

The most important thing is you keep talking and dont worry that you will sound silly. Anyone who has depression will understand and will have felt the same.

Please feel free to message me if you want to. Ive had many different treatments and therapies as I have had this for years. But Im still here and I do get through so you can too.

The thing about in-patient treatment is that is a way of being allowed not to function - an asylum in its old sense of a place of safety. In reality it may be less than this because there are usually other people with major mental disturbance such as schizophrenia and other psychoses who are very disturbed and disruptive. As an ex- NHS worker It pains me to say this but if you are able to get private in-patient treatment it is likely that the situation would be less difficult and more able to give you the support you require. NHS in-patient units are pretty desperate places. Good luck.

Hi Iwantmylifeback,

Sorry you are feeling so bad. I have been there, it's not a nice place. But things can be better. You might find some of these tips helpful:  https://patient.info/forums/discuss/-golden-list-of-tips-for-depression-anxiety-270877. Mainly the most important ones  are to sleep well, do breathing exercises when you're anxiously and eat regularly. Start with those 3 before you work on anything else.

I think you should talk to your doc/therapist before going in to be treated as an in-patient. Are you on meds/going to therapy?

Wishing you all the best. Keep in touch,

Agirl xxxx
