Insoles for leg length discrepancy

Quick query. I have one leg a quarter of an inch longer than the other now. Does anybody know where I can order some kind of insole that will correct that discrepancy? I live in the UK. I know it’s not a big difference but I think it is making the osteo arthritis in my other hip worse.

SORRY! Meant to type QUARTER OF AN INCH. Not an inch!

Sorry I don’t know but I bet you could Google your question “insoles for leg length discrepancy”… I bet you’d find an answer. Good luck

I would recommend your consultant refers you to Orthotics as you will be measured correctly and gain the correct shoe insert. If in the UK no charge. Good luck.

I’m not a podiatrist or spine surgeon, but I dont think that 1/4" leg discrepancy is abmormal, nor does it need treating. You could try adding an over the counter insole to one shoe, and see if you notice any difference. i doubt that you will.

I was operated last June 2018 and now have a leg length discrepancy. I have a limp and am still in pain from my thigh to groin. Lower back now hurts. I bought a 1/2 inch lift from Amazon by Dr. Foot. Was about $12 US dollars. I was ruined from this surgery. Look on line for leg lifts and I had to use a few different ones until found the right one.

1.5 inch discrepancy for me, saw a podiatrist and she measured me and gave me 4 insets but get the full ones off e b their much better, half an inch you could even make your own out of carpet

I know a friend had the same problem and found one or two people locally who could help.

Did you have a leg discrepancy before the operation?

No - Am now seeing a third doctor. I am in pain from my thigh to groin after 10 months. I will see a doctor a Hospital for Special Surgery on June 3rd. Hoping he can help me. I am miserable.

You don’t say how long it is since your operation, it is not advised to have heel raisers for some time afterwards until the swelling in the pelvis subsides, and then best to have it checked properly with a proper X-ray measurement.

No. It is two years since my operation and the only reason I’m concerned with it now is because I’ve developed osteoarthritis in my other hip and want to do everything to delay its onset.

I have a physio appointment coming up so I will ask. Thanks for the info.

Hi Carol

I completely understand your pain. I had my first total hip replacement last year right one, my surgeon had complications in surgery with my stem length so I had 1.5 inch longer length. April 5th this year 14 months after my first I had hip revision surgery to correct this length, however after surgery it dislocated due to the additional leg length previous the muscles had stretched causing the new hip to pop out. They put it back in but a week later it came out again. A day later I was back in surgery this time changing the cup size since then it hasn’t come out its been 1 week. I spent 18 days in hospital 3 operation 2 dislocations and 1 blood transfusion later and I still can’t see any reduced leg length, so for all I know all this may have been for nothing? Only time will tell but I tell you what, the revision is certainly more painful than the first operation. Fingers crossed for you that you get your issues sorted x

oh Penny, that is awful. I am so sorry about what has happened to you and it makes my worries sound very trivial. Having said that, I do have osteoporosis and MS as well as a dodgy half hip replacement! I have had a lot of problems, but nothing compared to yours, with my operation and have been told I’m not healthy enough to go through a revision. I am just upset about the osteo arthritis in my other hip as I’ve had enough of health worries and discomfort and stress. I want to be 30 again!

two years Richard. I’ve just been told I’ve got osteoarthritis in my other hip which is why I want to find out about insoles to try and keep the other hip going as long as possible.

Apologies for calling you Richard! Don’t know where I got that from.

Hello Carol19895
Perhaps see a podiatrist who can design an orthotic insole for your shoe. Another option is to see a boot maker to raise your heel to the height you require - I have a friend who does this to all her right shoes due to leg discrepancy.
All the best.

Omg yes please let’s be 30 again! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes::folded_hands:
