Internal Scar Tissue Is Ruining My Life!

Around 3 or 4 years ago I had my appendix removed as they thought it was inflamed, they inflated my stomach and put a camera through my belly button to see if it was and it actually was not but as a safety precaution they removed it anyway to avoid it happening, the surgery was key hole.

The surgery was a complete botch job so to speak and I was left with an organ infection and trapped air bubbles in my body. Although this caused me problems within the first couple of months it eventually settled down and I was able to start living normally again.

What hasn't improved at all however is the internal scar tissue that I have from where my appendix has been removed, I thought it would go away in time but its just getting in the way of everything I do in day to day life. Standing up and sitting down causes pain, going to the bathroom to pass urine and excrement causes pain, walking causes pain and also so does breathing, another thing that it is effecting is my relationship with my partner as pain that I get in my side when having intercourse is putting me off of doing it all together.

The doctors told me that the scar tissue may have healed and netted itself to my surrounding organs which is why I could be having this pain but its just absolutely ridiculous that I'm expected to just cope with it when it makes the simplest of things hard.

I'll be ringing my doctors within the next few days as they are currently shut so for now I hoped I could get a few answers from anyone who might know how to help, when I go to the doctors will there be anything that they can do with the scarring being internal? If there was anything they could do then I would do it, if there was some kind of surgery to cut away excess scar tissue would that be an option? (That said I know that would probably cause more scarring if such a procedure even exists)

Any help on what routes I could take would be extremely valuable to me and I welcome any help you may have to offer.

Thanks for your time,

Jess.

Hello Jess - I know this is an older post, but I'm having the same problems with internal scar tissue and wondered if you'd found any solution ?? How are you doing now?

Hi  Donna. I'm sorry to hear that you've been going through the same thing! Its absolutely awful and you cant help but feel quite helpless when it happens. I actually had surgery to remove the internal scarring 1 month ago and im fine now, I've not had any pains yet aside from my healing pains. The surgery was Adhesion Removal and was done via keyhole. I was in and out the same day. If you've had scan after scan after scan and nothing comes back I would actually try to push for this surgery being performed. Though that being said there is a risk that taking out the old scar tissue will just replace it with new scar tissue which thankfully hasn't happened to me! I hope this helped a bit! And best of luck in getting back to full health again.

Hi Jess - so glad to hear you're doing well now - thank God for that type of surgery! My scar tissue is within my uterus and the doc is saying my only hope is to have a hysterectomy but that scares the heck out of me .......... so I'm desperately looking for some external treatment that may help break up the scar tissue ........... like deep tissue massage or acupuncture or cold laser therapy ........ I'll try anything.

Hi Donna, the fact that your scar tissue is  in your uterus certainly makes things a lot harder doesn't it. Plus a hysterectomy is no small surgery for us women. I would try some various methods of pain relief for sure. I've had acupunture a few times for some very bad back pain and I have to say, it did wonders for me! Acupuncture is something that you have to keeo going back for, generally its a once a week thing but it really does pay off. Some acupuncture places (mine included) also do deep tissue muscle massages so it would definitely be worth a shot!

Thanks Jess - I've started going for acupuncture every Monday along with deep heat therapy ........ so fingers crossed this works. Any other ideas - let me know. smile

Hi Jess & Donna, I know this is an older post, but I have the same issue. I have gone through multiple lower back operations. Latest one was a yr ago. Since then numbness and pain were progressing causing muscle atrophy in along left leg. I barely can walk, pain increases after few meters of walking. It is effecting my daily live.

i have consulted many neurosurgeons, almost all say scar tissues causing it, and advised me to live with it as adhesion removal will make it even worse.

I am just wondering whether adhesion removal surgery or acupuncture have helped you on reducing the scar tissue

Hi Mustafa05 - I'm so sorry to hear of your issues.... hopefully you're at least on pain meds - do they help at all?    I'm still living with my issue and now in retrospect not sure if it's scar tissue at all - doctors are stumped.   Acupuncture did not help my particular problem - but I've heard SO many success stories about acupuncture and the low back I believe is a good candidate - I would suggest you give it a try for sure.   Just ensure you find a qualified acupuncturist ........ apparently they can use lasers now instead of needles but not sure if that's as effective ...... you'd have to ask.   I know myself how difficult it is when health problems affect your daily life - it's all you can think about until it's solved !!      Take care and God bless !

Hey. Im 26 years old and two years ago i had my left kidney removed with a 6lb tumour. I had ten months of intense chemotherapy. I finished chemo last year and have made a full recovery. I've been experiencing pain in my abdomen where my tumour and kidney were llocate and also in my shoulder, maybe extended nerve damage.. It feels so painful and like its tugging, to the point now where im going to see my oncologist, who told me after my last scan it was scar tissue. I am really worried and hoping it is scar tissue as it hurts more when im walking or standing, what do you think?

Hi Lianne. I m sorry to hear that. My understanding of scar tissue is that it gets worse if you go through multiple operations in the same muscle spot. I went through 5 lower back operations..same spot. I was very normal after first operation, little scar tissue affect after second one..affect progressed after subsequent operations. I advise that you seek second and third opinions...one of which could nuesurgeon

Hello all, wow I have a lot of the same issues and some more. I'm having string pains on my right side from my belly button over. It's been going on for over 3 years now. 2 years ago I went thru appendix removal (which didn't need to) but for a precaution they did it, a week later I had to have an emergency exploratory surgery where they removed a portion of my small intestine and a portion of my bowels. Then a hernia repair, gallery bladder removal along with another hernia repair within 6 months. I'm also being told it's scar tissue and they are not able to give out pain meds. I'm just so frustrated and don't know what to do.

Thank you for your time

You are so right. Going thru same thing with scar tissue in abdomin and groin area after having ovaries removed last year. Do you know if they can use lazar to remove scar tissue and keep it away? Need answers too.

JessArt, I hate to hear that someone elses life is being ruined due to adhesions. I was wondering of you found some relief. I was in alot of pain in 2008 when I went to the DR they didnt know what it was. After scans and test they determined it was Adenomyosis and endometriosis. I did not want anymore children. My body has taken a beating in more was than one. I finally decided to get it all out thinking it would be best because my female organs were killing me. I had a radical hysterectomy, my appendix removed, adhesions removed and through all of this my bladder and intestines had attached so the Dr had to surgically seperate them in 2014 in the same surgery . I felt wonderful after 2 months for about a month then the pain in my abdomen returned slowly. Now I wake sometimes in excruciating pain due to my bladder and intestines being togetber again with adhesions. I feel like I have major cramping and I have no female organs. WTH. I too am searching for a cure or atleast some relief. I have to take hormones which isnt too bad but is daily for me because other options are exspensive. I feel like a birden to my kids and husband. I hurt 24/7. There is nothing you can do or take to make it stop. I exercises, take pain meds, use over the counter pain patches and a warmed rice bag all the time, every day! Have you found any thing that helps? Your friemd in pain. CJ

CJ - I'm so sorry to hear of your daily pain - it can really affect one's life for sure.   Just wondering if a second surgery is an option to re-separate the organs again ?

Hello All,

Google Serrapeptase. It is an Enzyme that they are saying eats away at adhesions and scar tissue. My primary care Dr. Wrote it down for me and told me to google it and draw my own conclusion. I had my gall bladder out 4 years ago and have all sorts of chronic abdominal discomfort and pain. When I told the primary care that I was planning to get exploratory surgery to remove adhesions she told me about it. I have 4 weeks until my surgery and have started the Serrapeptase last week. Idk yet if it's helping. Good Luck to you all!

Hi all, i had my appendix out 7years ago since then ive complained about pains said felt like i still had it but couldnt obviously anyway last week noticed a big lump right side of belly button, few days ago see its bigger go doc to find out its a hernia that may have been caused from stuffed tissue from having appendix removed and all these years later its just been picked up on so now im waiting for a scan to see how big it is and have to have surgery

I would like to thank you Jess for your comments about your scar tissue even though yournpost was over a year i think. Because of what you said I have decided to get involved with this site and not keep all my pain inside and actually reach out about this. i thought I was on my own with this horrible mind numbing pain that is 24/7 ..I know my family is so very b tired of hearing me.. I tried to communicate with them so maybe they could see that the reason ive changed so much is because of my health or in better words why I cannot do the things I used to.. I live in constant pain and agony my body is filled with scar tissue its left me with nothing but misery.. i cant hardly walk i cant relax I cant enjoy ANYTHING!!! Most people dont understand even most doctors or if the doctors do understand they dont have anseers just that my body is absolutely filled with the worst kind of scar tissue there is in one surgeon's words and i quote....you have the worst scar tissue ive ever seen its wicked and looks like fingers with claws !! He even took photos of me on the inside during surgery ...He cut free organs especially my intestines which were completely plastered up against the wall of my abdomen i guess you could say...But by doing so it has caused me even more misery im in serious bad condition ....ive lost 50 pounds I cant hardly eat i vomit so very much im constantly nauseas been 8 years since they took out my scar tissie so now im so sick and in serios pain and my health is failing bad.. Now here the my dilemma if I have it removed again more will grow so I am very very depressed I feel like my life is pretty much over...I also had back surgery and have a titanium cage and screws and the scar tissue is unbearable there as well... My body is completely full of it so what can I do? Most of the time I stay inside my house Its too difficult to do or go anywhere if anyone out there has any advice id sure appreciate it.. This is my very first comment on any site the first time ive spoken out about this ....

Hi there, I too have major problems with my scare tissue. I had a retained placenta back in Jan 2012 and have had nothing but problems since. I have had surgery to remove the scare tissue last year, I had a hysterectomy the year before, I've had a tone of scrapings but nothing has worked. I am so much worse. I have seen a few different specialists and am seeing another next week. I will not give up as it is completely ruining my life. I am a Personal Trainer that shares knowledge but unfortunately am unable to be fit myself. I can't have intercorse with my husband without being sure for weeks after. I spend days and sometimes weeks on the couch in pain. I have on average a week of feeling ok a month. If I find out how to cure this horrible issue I will be sure to let you all know. I won't give up until I find a way to get my life back. Please share anything you find out to that may help me. Thanks and will be in contact when I have something else to share. BTW ultrascans after ultrascans never showed my scare tissue. I had an MRI and it was everywhere. When the surgeon removed the scare tissue he explain that there was A LOT to remove and my recovery would be 6 months. It's been about 10 months. Reason I share is if you can't see anything on a scan then try a MRI. Susie

Hello Jess and all others, I realize this post is quite old but I also deal with alot of the same pain you've mentioned about scar tissue. As a child I endured many health issues due to premature birth, I was 1 lb and 3 ounces. Had many surguries as an infant, far too many to name but one in particular was a hernia repair that seemed to fix the issue for awhile.

I'm 22 now and I have frequent groin pain due to internal scar tissue and have been seen by doctors and told that I have no signs of any hernia even though I knew something was still wrong. I met with a urologist a few months back and he told me nothing was abnormal about my groin area and the pain I have is likely from scar tissue, he said it wouldn't do much good to remove it because it would just grow back but its gotten to be excruciating lately.

Does Ahesion treatment and cold laser therapy really work to remove and ensure the scar tissue won't come back again? Any info would be appreciated! Thank you.

I have been dealing w foot, leg, back pain for 2 1/2 yrs. I've been to every kind of doctor! I've had injections, etc...

However, I've started a new treatment and wanted to share with you. I just started it so I don't have results to report yet. I am feeling optimistic. It is "ART physical therapy". I hear really good things about it. I have a friend it worked On. I've done regular physical therapy in the past but This is specialized in active release techniques. He locates all the scar tissue and breaks it up. It's a painful treatment but praying it works! Just wanted to share because I feel your pain rolleyes
