Intolerant to several different anti deps.

i have agitated depression and they cannot find an anti dep suitable.  I am on diazepam for anxiety low dose.  I need a decent anti dep. please anyone help?

What have you tried?

Prozac, effexor, amitriptylene, lofepramine, mirtazapine, sertraline, risperidone,  seroquel, moclobemide

I am on Lexapro and it works like a miracle . It is used to treat anxiety and depression.

I myself have tried a lot of different SSRIs too and finally got the one that works for me . I am on diazepam too.

Have you tried Citalopram?

mirtazapine works well for me.....but I have a disorder tho….

I'm sorry that the medications haven't helped so far. Are you under the care of a psychiatrist or just a general doctor / GP?

If you haven't seen a psychiatrist yet it would be worth asking for a referral to one - they are the most trained in psychiatric medications.

Even under a psychiatrist, it can take a long time to find what works for you. Maybe a combination of medications would be more beneficial than just one at a time? Like you, I have tried so many antidepressants with little or no improvement but I'm finding that a combination of meds is helping a little more at the moment. Adding in a mood stabiliser like lithium, lamotrigine, carbamazipine or valproate might help - they can increase the effectiveness of an antidepressant.

Are you having any type of talking therapy alongside medication?

Don't give up. I know how demoralising it feels to have treatment after treatment fail but there WILL be something out there that will help.

Did tou alao try many meds before tou found the right one?

no he didnt trynthat as he said he tried sertraline and they are from same group.  I am willing to try anything tomtake this nausea and anxiety away.

thank you so much for your helpful note.  Yes it is really demoralising when none of these meds works and the side effects are worse than the illness.  I seem to get nausea at the drop of a hat and worsened anxiety.

i am assuming you are diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety and you are not using anti depressants, but have gone over to lithium and lamotrigine etc?   If you have an anti depressant that works alongside i would be interested to know.  I am hoping to have talking therapy shortly but feel sombad dont knw how i will get there

.

Thanks, i have tried it but no go. Couldnt get above 15mg

Hi Ann, not been funny but it's a shame you can't try cannabis oil.

I am being on an old tricyclic antidepressant called Nortriptyline. I tried Lexapro and Prozac for trials bout didn’t work. Been on this for 38 days. Just raised dose to 100. I also have agitated depression. I take one Klonopin in the am. Slowly feel like I’m getting better

You need to stay on them sometimes it takes a long time for them to work. Paxil is another ssri.

How long do you manage to stay on each one?

I tend to get hideous nausea and upset stomach at the start and can feel very agitated but this does go away after a few weeks as your body gets used to it.

I still take an antidepressant called Duloxetine but take lamotrigine alongside and although my psych wants me to switch from lamotrigine to lithium.

Duloxetine is in the same group as venlafaxine but has worked for me when venlafaxine didn't so it is worth trying others from the same group as they all have different ingredients.

Then there are older style antidepressants like the tricyclic and MAOI antidepressants which tend not to be prescribed as much anymore but some people do really well on them.

I really recommend talking therapy alongside medication. Like antidepressants it can take a few attempts to really click with a therapist but it will be so worth it.

Yes I did . I have tried Zoloft, Prozac , Paxil , mierserin , amd some I forgot .

Not sure where Ann is but I'm in the UK and use cannabis oil. It's helped with anxiety but not with the depression sadly.

Really interested in your experience.  I did think about asking about this one, will maybe discuss with psych. As all others were bad.  Managed months of lofepramine and couple of years mirtazapine but no betterment so psych said discontinue as level was low and couldnt get it higher.   The problem seems to be that the agitated depression is actually worsened by ssris etc. Which doesnt help.   Therefore your noritriptylene is probably a good choice.

i have bought cbd oil from holland and barrett but scared to mix it with warfarin.

Are you in the UK?

It could be worth trying a good CBD oil to help with anxiety. It's really helped me. Not the stuff from Holland and Barrett - that made my anxiety worse. I buy the purple oil from CBD Brothers. Tastes awful but does the job really well.
