iron deficiency anemia symptoms

I was diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia in August. My gynecologist believes it is due to heavy menstrual periods which I've been experiencing since May. (I have a pelvic ultrasound scheduled for tuesday). I have had the extreme tiredness in the past but as of late I have been getting dizzy, feeling weak and wobbly, have been "shaky"(it feels more of shaking from the inside out) and I've had shortness of breath and chest discomfort. I know these may all be symptoms of my anemia but they come and go all day. I'll feel good in the morning then all of a sudden I'm hit with the dizzy head and shakiness and then a few hours later I'm fine again. My question is, is this normal to have these feelings come and go and not be constant?

I have anemia too and also a slight B12 deficiency... I get the dizziness too but I get strange sensations in my legs that makes me off balance. I don't have that "dizzy " feeling but more of an "off balance" feeling. Does this happen to you?

Yes! its more of an off balance feeling than an actual dizzy feeling. its so hard to explain-my head just feels "off". And I get the strange feelings in my legs too-like tingliness I guess I could call it. its all so strange and sometimes scary too, thank you for responding to my question.

This could be the start of peri meno symptoms. It depends on your age. The symptoms are similar. I had the same feelings when I was diagnosed with anaemia. I had never heard of peri meno until I started googling. The extreme fatigue when I would just have to lie down, and palpitations and feeling of unable to get a full breath.

Hopefully it will pass when your iron levels come up. In peri meno the symptoms come and go as hormone levels fluctuate.

Hey there 👋🏻

I have low Ferritin, it's 8 and should be between 10 & 300.

Also have low Folate, it's 2.3 and should be 4 or over.

I took have this dizziness that you describe and it feels like I'm off balance a lot of the time and my head feels swimmy (if that make sense). Breathlessness is pure evil! Some days aren't too bad then the next I feel like I've gone backwards but I've been told this is normal until they all get to optimum levels.

I'm on Ferrous Fumarate 210mgs, I was prescribed 3 a day but with stomach issues like IBS I can only take 1/1.5 tablets a day.. Maybe 2 at a push!

I'm also on Folic Acid 5mgs a day.

It doesn't help that I suffer from pharmacophobia! 😕 So I have days where I cannot take pills but I am getting better and I'm trying to ignore it and take my pills regularly! My doctors knows all of my issues and says my levels will go up but will take a bit longer but if I can keep going the way I have the last few days then I should be okay and get them up quicker! Can't wait until the day I no longer feel tired, dizzy, off balance and have no breathlessness!

Oh and I know the shakiness you describe.. Hope you are on the right medications and get better soon! Hopefully in the next 3months we are all feeling much better and symptom free!

I need some advice from you guys! I do usually feel tired. However, every so often when I am running I feel like I can’t breath and I get a large amount of pressure in my head, to the point that I have to stop because I feel like I’m going to pass out. After I stop my whole body feels so funny (it’s hard to describe) it’s like my body has no energy and all the muscles in my body are achy. Do you guys think this is anemia? Should I go see a doctor?

I know this post was awhile ago but I’m curious how this played out? I’m going through the exact same thing right now and searching for answers
