I suffer from Atypical Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome which causes anemia.
Can I ask if any of you have had an Intravenous iron infusion?.
If you have how long did it take to feel any difference in breathing and energy levels?.

I have had 4 to date. I find it takes about 7 to 10 days to feel the benefit. I go for a blood test 2 weeks after an infusion to test levels as they say it takes this long for iron levels to rise. I did have a transfusion followed by intravenous ferrous sulphate and I found this worked quicker and better. Hope this helps. Vikki.
When I get them, I have to go in for 6 infusions over a two to three week period then get tested to make sure it’s brought levels back up 10-14 days later (after the last one). I think towards the end, 5th or 6th infusion I can noticeably feel the difference but that’s usually at least 2 weeks after the first one and have gotten more in me between then. (Does that make sense?) Hope that helps
Hi Andrew I was the same on haemo dialysis and had monthly infusions which took about 20 mins. To be honest I did this right up to my transplant 8 weeks ago and didn't ever feel a difference and my anemia didn't go. I would say though that the best I felt on dialysis was on home haemo. Did it for 2 hours for 6 days. Felt so much better even had the energy to go out for the occasional lunch.
