Irritable bowel or colitis?

Hi there, I am 53 years old and have been having flareups of what I thought was IBS,, starting back about 15 to 17 years ago. It was always bought on by stress and I had the spasms in my tummy, felt feverish and had constipation/loose ness. I only seem to have a bad flareup about every year to 2 years, but the last one which was last week I thought I noticed a bit of blood in my poo. Not sure what to do now, feel a bit panicky about it. Could it be Ulcerative colitis?

Usually a little bit of blood is harmless but if it really worries you see your GP and get it checked out

Thanks for your rely which I was quite relieived to hear, but if I have got IBS I thought that passing a bit of blood (this happened only the once, the day after my attack) was not supposed to happen?

Its normal to have a little blood once and a while whether you have IBS or not, you probably gave yourself a superficial injury during your last bout of IBS, if you had colitis or even diverticular disease Id expect you to be having blood far more often, this doesnt mean that having colitis or diverticular is out of the question it just means that if you have got one or the other your colon is in not too bad a state, if you was having blood a couple of times a week itd be far more suspicious. Like I said if it worries you or if it starts to happen more often go and see your GP
