I’ve discovered when my thyroid becomes occasionally irritated ( I get a dull headache with slight agitation feeling, faster heartrate, increased blood pressure) I can take one liquid gel ibuprofen and it relieves the symptoms. My doctors have denied knowing anything about using an anti inflammatory to treat these “episodes” but for me it absolutely works.
Ive been having the same symtpoms for past 7 months every single day. I had to quit my job. Im hypo thyroid but i feel hyper tho the labs do not reflect that. I took xanex for my symtpoms.
Amanda, I reasoned that my thyroid must be irritated, this thyroiditis. Upon researching this condition, I learned it usually resolved on its own but in severe cases it’s treated with steroids (Prednisone) which is an anti inflammatory. Since Ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory, I tried it the next time I had an onset. Worked like a champ! Within 20 minutes my symptoms started to back off. It’s certainly worth a try provided you’re not allergic to ibuprofen.
Jean, thanks for posting. I find the same thing... thyroid gets inflamed and causes neck and headaches. I find icing the back of my neck relieves the inflammation and pain.
Never had those issues even when my TSH was 65. Antiinflammatories are not the best for many reasons. But guess once in awhile won't hurt. I used to use them for extremely painful.menses. I wish they were healthy.meds bc they really made me feel so much better. all around. I could take Rx strength doses with.no.sides. But they can damage stomach lining.etc.
I only use the ibuprofen when I have a flare of irritation. It might happen 3 or 4 times a year, so definitely not daily use. Thanks for the reminder about anti-inflammatory meds!
