I am due to go for a consultation for a gastric band, but I am so confused.. From reading the posts there are obviously a lot of negatives but ultimately if the weight comes off it would be worth it... Has anyone had a band and not lost weight... I have 5 stone to lose, have tried dieting but never stays off.... But no wondering if a band is the answer... What do you think?
I had my gastric band fitted October last year and so far I've lost 4.5 stone post op, I aim to lose 10 stone for me i felt it was essential as I had/have so much to lose weight wise!
I don't regret it at all and I am still having band fills every 4 weeks and I'm on target as my surgeon says I should be losing 7pounds Max between visits!
I'm feeling better already, it does however take time to get used to!
If you need advice I can try and answer any questions x

There is so much uncertainty in our lives and it is difficult to predict the outcomes of our actions or inactions. As far as we can tell, in the absence of any medical training, being 5 stone overweight is not good for your health, in the short and long term. The fitting of a gastric band is not a new operation, it is well established. Even so, I can understand your uncertainty. Be well prepared for your consultation with a written list of questions and if possible take someone with you and ask them to make notes of the consultation. Ask the consultant about the operation and the possible outcomes. Ask about the possible timescales post-op. How long will it take to lose weight, what follow-up will there be after the op. Please remember that the consultant has the expertise and training and should be the person to ask for advice,
