Is anyone at this stage losing weight??

Is there anyone who's perimenopausal losing weight as i appear to be doing, i know am not a good eater as i feel nauseas and have no appetite but i do eat sufficient and i thought we put weight on during this time. if anyone is experiencing this i would feel so much better knowing thanks x

Hi Anxious , wish I could lose weight I'm periemenopausal too and I've put on a stone in a year ! definitely hormonal , nothing different in my diet or lifestyle , , healthy diet , exercise , etc , I have gone up two dress sizes ! I would go for a check up especially if your feeling nausea , I think theres a wide range of grotty things to contend with , to be honest , but i d go to the docs ask for a full blood test , and a proper discussion about your concerns , if youve got a lady doctor you might find their more responsive to you, (not being dis respectful to the gentleman doctors ) have a look at the various websites for us ladies of a certain age , menopause.uk , and a few others youll find some great info there too , hope you get some answers soon

Take care

Hi Anxious face 😀 yes i have lost weight, I have never been heavy, but have lost weight, in my 8th year of peri, me too lost appetite, full up quickly, but crave chocolate all the time, anyone else crave chocolate ? i eat chocolate and still lose weight ?

also do you have all the symptoms that a period is coming, and not have one, i get the symptoms and dont have one, i only had two periods in 2013 and three in 2012, but the symptoms are crippling, headaches last for days and cramps are very bad and back ache ... i just had nine days of symptoms, tears, full on anxiety, no period and thankfully now symptoms are easing off.. i dont take HRT.. have a great weekend ..

Howdy i know this is old thread but i have lost 20kg in last 6 months from this horrible perimenopause. Every doc i have been to just wants to give antidepressants cos my bloods come back normal except my oestradiol was very high. I have stomach gurgling, nauseus, dizzy vertigo recent diagnosis of menieres disease but i strongly believe its hormonal, sore joints and muscles, headaches, burning wee, allergies, chest pains, ovarian pain. Had hystetectomy ten years ago but ovaries were left so have no way of knowing my cycle or if periods stopping which makez it a little difficult. Am so over this and hope it finishes soon, have used all sick leave at work and struggle to do my job with bad concentration, anxiety and shaky. Its horrible!!!

Hello jo, SNAP i can relate to all your symptoms except i'v not experienced burning wee or chest pain but all the other i do have and too am struggling at work with concentration ans anxiety. i run an office on my own and only see men mostly so have no one to talk to and understand the way i feel so its difficult i think the men would think im crazy the way i get through the day. I must say my nausea has not been as bad these last few weeks so i'm eating a little better now. Its the dizziness that i'm finding hard, i;ve stopped going out too far on my own cos of this dizzy feeling that makes me feel i'v been spun round then i feel sick, is this what its like for you jo ? I have the shakes every morning and usual subsides by afternoon but can have them all day sometimes. I feel like an old person, my mother in law who's 84 doesn't shake. I never had allergies a couple of years ago and now i seem to suffer with my sinuses . My headaches can last for 4 days. I'm so sorry your another poor lady going through this we never thought we would have to endure such debilitating symptoms as this did we cos no one told me. take care and keep in touch. sending you a comforting hug x

hi anxiousface yes thats exactly how i feel makes it hard to do anything hey. I have changed diet, doing yoga, taking supplements and have very little stress apart from all these symptoms that never let up. Have been on bioidentical prog troche for two months symptoms ease a little but not enough to be able to resume my normal day to day life. Sorry that you ate going thru it too its si much easier being able to read that other people have same symptoms. How did they manage before internet cos none of my friends have any of this. Would love to stay in contact i work in mental health lol and need to at least appear like i am together but somedays i am worse than my clients!!!

Hi Jo

bless you... I had all of what you mention, I am in 8th yer of peri now, my last period was Aug 2013..

in my first year or two of Peri, ( i am now age 49) was 41 then, I lost alot of weight, to the point of looking skeletal and had dizzy spells and fainting spells, ( I fainted once in a Boots Store years ago) I learned to know the build up of the weird feelings before a faint... and would try and get sat down and deep breathe etc.. I do not have fainting spells now, dizzy sometimes, but no faints, I had the feeling of needing a wee often, and felt like i had cystitis alot, although actually hadnt, just sensitive peri bladder..

I have felt awful on and off, even in 8th year.. in my experience the early peri symptons are the most severe, ie sweats, flushes, need to wee when you dont, burning sensation, rapid weight loss, etc etc etc but it does pass, then other symptoms emerge in my experience...

Anxious face... I am still full of energy, I swear by my iron tablets ( taking half of a 105mg) so taking 52.5mg daily when i get up, wow never felt better, even my aches and pains and back ache have virtually gone, I am amazed... was never diagnosed as having lack of iron, but my diet does lack red meat etc as husband works away and dont eat alot of iron rich foods, but I feel a different person... I am currently losing abit of weight but i never sit down just moved house, so its maybe down to that, but my energy levels are fantastic.. before i wanted to do nothing, now i feel refreshed... I do not take HRT Jo I mention what i take on other posts on here... take care both of you.. have a good week.... Jay xx

Thanks Jaynejay. Was thinking bout iron but was bit worried bout taking it but will try it too. I have had lots of these symptoms in milder form for at least 6 years but not to the degree that they have been the last 12 months. Just dont understand why doctors arent more knowledgable about this and cant offer more than antidepressants and label u as psychsomatic its very frustrating having to find answers yourself. Oh well i am very educated about peri now and at least everyone atound me will be too, lol. And it made me make some big changes to my lifestyle that can only be positive. Only hope its not another ten years of this!!

Hi Jo

google iron supplements, as I have seen lots about being good for energy .... also I dont know where you live, I am in Spain so buy mine from the Farmacia, I think ( not sure) UK iron from stores, supermarkets etc is a standard 14mg... as a dietry supplement, mine are lot stronger thats why I half mine, they are 105mg from Spanish Farmacia, so I halved mine with a pill slitter gadget and take 52.5 mg daily, best to take on waking, on empty stomach half hour before food, apparently a vitamin C tablet or glass of orange assists iron absorption ..

It works so well for me, although blood tests never said I am anaemic or anything, I just thought I would try them, as diet lacks iron, and for me I feel amazing. Been on them about 3/4 weeks i think, felt great about 5 days after starting them.. I cant take HRT ( family history prevents me, not risking it) i also tried that natural prgesterone cream but it made me worse, and made my breasts tender and lumpy, as soon as I stopped using it I was back to normal breast wise..

also I take Estroven Max herbal i get them off UK ebay from states ( cheaper) and Idodine of kelp, Maca for a libido kick, Vit C, Vit D, and now my fave iron.. 😐 iron does make your stool dark, this is normal... worth a try, do a google about iron ... its been my miracle supplement after 8 years, just wish I had used it before... even my husband said ' where is this energy coming from' 😑 take care, let me know how you get on, if you get 14mg like I mentioned before, this is like only a quarter of what i take daily... dont know if you can buy better ones from the pharmacy or not in UK as the pharmacist .... good luck Jo x

forgot to say, Dohhhhh... when i was pregnant years ago, we were given iron tabs and folic acid, and i always said, ' I had more energy when I was pregnant than I have ever had in my whole life' so maybe this iron is what I certainly need personally for me... worth a try for sure.... Jay x

Thanks i am in australia so i will check them out thanks heaps for info. I took iron when preggo many moons ago. Will def research and maybe just start low. Again thanks and take care.

hello jo,

thank s for your reply i agree its made things easier for me reading about people who are going through thesame horrid symptoms, its answers a lot for me and i get a lot of help from these lovely ladies. I too have started taking iron tablets like jay but i take mine every other day. I have not had the increased energy yet like jay but mine are just off the shelf from Tesco and i think jays are special. i must say thinks have been better for me these last 2 weeks but this weekend i had PMT and today feel tingly and have shaky legs so i do think its connected to when i should be having a period but iv not had one since Nov 2013. Since changing to decaf tea and cutting down on cheese iv not had as many or severe headaches which has contributed towards me feeling better.

jay im thrilled to hear your still full of energy, hope it keeps up for. You'll be telling us you going to run a marathon next.

jo hope you keep in touch, we all support each other here and its nice to chat to someone that understands. like you i know no one who is going or gone through this. hugs x

Well got my iron tested and am low so have started iron tablets now but also diagnosed with menieres disease which i am convinced is hormone related but told no by ent. Also have parasite in large numbers dont know where I got that from!!! Anyway another lot of antibiotics but hopefully I will get on top of all this soon! This time in life is so interesting

Hi Joe..

low iron, well when you get cracking on iron tabs i bet you will feel tonnes better, I am still on top 4.5 weeks after starting iron, take on empty tum first thing when you get up, and pref with some form of vit C as helps absorption, expect a dark stool its normal with iron..

re: parasites, maybe you have picked this up with food, most likely salad, lettuce etc, I had this when I spent 3 years in Saudi but mine was a serious parasitic illness ( ameobic dysentry) and I was screaming out in pain and have drips and god knows what, had to take 2 types of meds, to kill the parasite, and then the hatched eggs eggs they laid, it was 9 months of hell, but you know when you have that as its crippling bed job... my son had a lesser evil parasite here in spain and all was sorted within 10 days with antibiotics.. in our case it was down to how well washed vegs and salad are either by yourself or restaurants, as when growing they use dirty well and other cheap water to water irrigate the crops.. lettuce is the worse as these parasites get lodged in areas and we eat them 😒 its made me paranoid now...

hope your all sorted soon, and the iron helps alot.. what MG are your iron tabs ? I split mine they are 105mg and i halve to 52.5 mg daily... take care Jay x

I found taking iron stops choccie cravings

Iron tabs she told me to get are ferro gradumet 325mg. And yes they have stopped chocky craving. Having bad mornings this week shaky anxious dizzy internal shaking nausea. last week could have takenvon world this week no way

Sorry you're not so good this week

I said to someone else on the healthy tips peri chat re shaking and they said it was blood sugar levels and recommended a book which I've ordered - have a look & see what you think. I've just (it's my 2nd day!!!) cut right down on sugar, salt & caffeine - am having headaches - and substituting things where I can (peppermint tea, milk & water's replaced coffee, am not having sugar there; am going to try fruit puree in cakes instead of sugar. Am also exercising (helps with anxiety & adrenaline rushes etc), have gone back to gym, and eating 3 regular healthy meals a day with the odd fruit as snack. I'm a few stones overweight and need to do more to help myself be healthier. Just have a look at your daily life & see if there's anything you can tweak to improve your health, and sorry if I'm preaching to the converted! And it may be that you've got a virus. Roll with the punches and take care of yourself.

I'm 49 and have struggled with my weight most of my days. I joined weightwatchers again a year ago and have only managed to lose about 2 stone. Such a constant struggle and I couldn't understand why I wasn't losing weight at my original rate of 1.5-2lb a week constantly, until I discovered a few weeks ago that at this age and with the rest of my perimenopausal symptoms, I'm unlikely to lose. How disheartening. I've cut everything to a bare minimum, and am exercising regularly but still have about 8 stone to lose. Heaven knows how little I'll be able to eat if and when I get down closer to my target! If you're happy losing weight, then long may it continue for you.

I to struggled with my weight for years I know what its like but then got really worried when lost 20kg in such short time I am a little grateful for the parasite but not for the pain it has caused. I sympathise with any weight issues cos am judged when too big but now judged cos too thin just cant win either way. One doc said anorexic but I eat large amounts and always hungry was just going straight through me but now I know its parasite so prob put it all back on when it is killed off because of hormones
