Because I reacted so badly to esomeprazole and omeprazole my gp has put me on pantoprazole
20 mg s per day. Only taken one dose but seem to be less side effects so far, some stomach ache
which may be my ibs playing up and headache. My question is that the recommended daily dose on various websites is 40mgs and I wondered what dose other people were on?
Hi Linda
I've had it in the past and it did the job. However, I've been taken off it, as it mustn't be taken with another drug I take for my heart. At the moment I'm on Omeprazole and finding it useless and have to back it up with Gaviscon. Also, I told the GP some time back that Lansoprazole wasn't working, so he took me off that and put me on Omeprazole. I can't say I've had any side effects from any of these, they just don't seem to work for me much, only in the short term. I also have IBS as well as acid reflux. Seems your GP may have started you off on the lower dose to see how you react, as lower is better, if it works. If not, then perhaps he might up the dosage. I've read a lot on this forum and it seems to me that GERD and IBS seem to go hand in hand together for an awful lot of people. Hope you get some relief.
Regards, Val.
Thank you. I am obviously one of the small percentage of people who react badly to ppis. I am now getting
some dizziness and quite depression which wears off somewhat later in the day and as i take my
medication first thing I am sure that it is exacerbating it although I am of course fed up with my condition anyway.
Hi Linda,
I think proton pump inhibitors are bad news personally. The older H2 blockers seem to have less side effects. Lynn
