Is everyone on HRT???

i cant seem to find much about going through this naturally, everthing i read says hrt reduces ageing etc, just curious is anyone doing this without meds? im concerned about taking anything, saw gp yesterday and one minute it was like they didnt believe it was perimenopause, the next im being offered the mini pill and hrt :/

I’m not on hrt not gonna also everyone I know that’s on it has just as many symptoms and more risk of cancer I’ll suffer

can i ask what symptoms you have? im 40 and feel a hundred x

I have so many on the list I think I’m dying some days I’ve been dealing with this he’ll for 3 years I’m ready for it to end in 55

bless you, i have almost all on the list plus some not on it, hopefully we will improve soon x

ive had pretty much every awful symptom you can think of! tried hrt in tablet form & patches & increasing the dose over a 7 month period, for me it made me feel really poisoned & ive been off it for 2 weeks now. the poisoned feeling has gone but today ive woke feeling really achy with buzzing legs and arms and feeling weak limbed. i think my anxiety is better without hrt and energy levels too also my nausea & appetite has increased, a lot women do really well on hrt i mean if you had heart trouble you would take medication wouldnt you! you have as much risk of cancer if you smoke, drink or are overweight dont believe all the scare stories ultimately its quality of life that counts x

the problem i have is alot of women may have too much estrogen in peri, i have fibroids and theyre usually an indicator of estrogen so why would i take something that is going to make that worse! just want a specialist opinion not a gp who offers me mini pill and hrt without knowing what we are dealing with x

im pretty sure this is what happened to me, i was adding even more hormones to my erratic hormones so was horrendous! i have heard that taking the pill can suppress your hormones but this is something ive never tried, im going to do a body reset for a few months & see whats what to he honest. it certainly is an absolute minefield which has totally floored me x

why isnt there a proper test? im having night sweats every night now  do you ever feel worse after your period? x

toria,
There is proper tests. There is a right way for docs to test through blood and urine. The biggest hurdle for women is getting to a doc that understands this time in a woman’s life. Most get very minimal education on peri and menopausal women and how to treat properly. That is why they will offer anti depressants to a woman that has never had depression problems when she’s in menopause. They will hand out scripts for anxiety pills, sleeping pills etc, because they haven’t been educated on it. Women really are on their own to educate themselves. My personal belief is you have to get to a doc that knows this stuff, has taken the training and knows what tests to run. They will look at the whole picture. That is why women have so many problems taking hrt. It really is sad because women shouldn’t have to suffer so many years of their lives when the proper fix is out there.

i get sweats from behind my knees, elbows & chest at night its horrid. im in the uk & doctors here dont do blood tests because hormones during perimenopause fluctuate by the minute! you basically would need several blood tests all day long! my doctor goes by symptoms alone, i understand you can only get a bloodtest when your period stops to test for menopause (12months without a period) to be honest i feel so up & down ive had 3 good days this week but today feel achy & fluey doesnt seem any pattern which would make sense if our hormones are all over the place x

do you know what tests at all? x

i hate this, i feel worse after my blooming period :frowning: x ps in the uk also x

toria,
Looks like you can’t use names of companies here. I did lots of blood work, the most ever in my life. Then I took home a urine kit where I tracked my urine for 4 days at 4 different times a day. All tests being ordered by my doc. Tests were mailed in and results back in a couple weeks gave a complete picture of my hormones.

are you in the uk? x

toria,
No I’m in the states but my insurance does not cover any of it. Its all out of pocket. For me, its for my health and long term happiness and some way some how I will afford it to feel good.

i dont blame you! i just dont know what to do :frowning: x

Hi Toria,

I had blood tests done recently to test for hormones, there were 2 results, one for FSH/LH and one for ‘Serum follicle stimulating hormone level’, they showed that I was right at the top of the ranges for both which would explain why I feel so crappy.
Ive discussed HRT options with my gp last week but there was too much mention of an increase of cancer, (mentioned several times), to convince me it was a acceptable risk. I was on SSRI’s for over 2 years and they did work brilliantly but I gained nearly 3 stone on them so came off them last Nov, I really struggled to get off them, took me 9 months of tapering and even then had horrendous side effects, its put me off ever taking them again. I also had a mirena coil for 5 years which was awful, I felt like I had constant PMT, didnt realise how bad I was until it was removed!
I am going to look into more natural treatments, I have started taking menopause vitamins, cant say they’ve had any effect as yet but only 6 weeks in. Ive read that acupuncture is supposed to be effective, something Ive never tried but will look into trying this once restrictions are lifted. There are lots of other more natural treatments and herbal remedies, its just about trying them and finding something that works, I know exercise and quality sleep help but thats easier said than done when you feel constantly stressed and fatigued :frowning:

hi sara, are you in the uk? im pretty sure i have high estrogen as i have fibroids and constant sore breasts, came off my period 2 days ago and feel worse than ever :frowning: x

Yes, Im in the uk. I used to get awful sore breasts before my period but it would pass when I started my period, Ive not had them since I last had my last period several months ago. I used to have all the symptoms of high estrogen, Ive not had fibroids but did suffer terribly sore breasts and lots of fibrocystic lumps as well as mood swings and tiredness, I seem to have the opposite now. It seems that some of us are just very sensitive to hormones, I always wondered how women could do competitive sport as I would only ever have been any good for one week in the month!
