is it anxiety or depression or both?

hey guys, I’m new here. I’m a 29 yr old female with one son. I’ve just been diagnosed with anxiety and depression. The thing is, I dont have any intrusive or negative thoughts to spur on the anxiety. I can just be sitting there and the feelings of unease will set it coupled with cold sweats, tightness in the head and a feeling like im disconnected from reality, like I’m not really here. At times I’ll awake to an anxiety attack or whatever it is; it feels like im dying.

In retrospect, a few months ago is all i can recall, i realized everyone around me annoyed me. I especially had no time and patience for my son, he pissed me off and I had no idea why he irritated me so much. Sometimes I felt like ignoring ppl for the whole day. I woke up with no happiness or expectation for the day. At nights I’d awake in a panic thinking I broke my teeth because I clench so hard during my sleep.

Right now its debilitating, I cant relax even if I wanted to. I’m off work until I can catch myself and its taking a toll on my family. I initially thought that the atenolol was causing this (which i take for svt). I’m currently on zoloft and xanax. Been taking them for 4 days now and I’m scared they wont work and this will be my fate. sigh. i neef help yall.

very often anxiety and depression go hand-in-hand. Sometimes people don’t realize that. You have to give the medication at least 4 to 6 weeks to begin working.
anxiety can seemingly pop in out of nowhere. You don’t have to have negative thoughts for it to appear. There are just some people who are more prone to it than others and it can also be hereditary. The feeling of disconnection, tightness in the head, cold sweats, are all very common symptoms of anxiety and panic. None of them are harmful so they are not going to hurt you but I know how scary they can feel.
feeling irritated with people and unhappy are very common with depression. It sounds like you have both anxiety and depression. so give the medication a chance. Medication doesn’t take away 100% of anything but it can give you relief and take the edge off. Just take one day at a time and don’t think too far in the future.
Have you ever considered talking to a counselor? It really helps to vent to somebody else who can help. You can do virtual counseling also. .not sure how old your son is but try to go easy on him. if he’s young he doesn’t understand what you are going through so Maybe explain to him how you are feeling and what he could do to help. Take care

Hi,

Apologies if I cannot help but just comparing symptoms to others to ensure I am not going mad. Does your tightness in the head make your head feel fuzzy / somewhat cloudy or foggy, and also makes your balance feel off like slightly dizzy and the ground seems to be unstable. I feel like this pretty much every day at my workplace and have a feeling it is brought on by some of the people around me. At the weekends and evenings am fine - no problem, back on Monday and the weird head sensation returns.

I wonder if this is down to anxiety / depression or both ?

first of all, lemme make you sure about a fact (as i have been through the phase of anxiety and depression in my teens, i can totally relate to your situation); We often misunderstand people around us and our perceptions about the environment goes badly wrong, when in a state of depression or anxiety.

And since you are struggling with anxiety and depression both, that is surely not your normal resting state of mind as a human, you will feel irritated and agitated about very minute thing. It is totally okay if you feel like ignoring people, It is totally okay if things aren’t going your way and it is totally okay if certain medication doesn’t works for you the way it might works for others.

Every human body is different and reacts differently to drugs. If a certain medicine didn’t work for you totally normal nothing out of the world. Give your new medicine a time of at least 4 weeks and see how this works. I remember how at first antidepressants made me nauseated most of the time but than my body adapted gradually.

Take a deep breath!- anxiety wont make you die!

things like this happen to most of people dealing with the same thing, it has happened to me and you can count me in  your brain is very powerful to overcome any such thing as anxiety, you just need to give your self some time, give your therapies some time and you are just gonna be fine! take care
