About 4 years ago I suffered for symptoms of anxiety and delusional thoughts and I went to see my doctor as a last resort as I knew something wasn’t right and I had to do something about it , I was prescribed propranolol but I was always against taking tablets as iv seen people really change and suffer form taking different tablets so I decided to not take them and try and beat it myself after a while I sort just sorted myself out and eventually I sort of pushed it to the back of my mind and just carried on with my life as is nothing was wrong , but I always wonder if I haven’t beaten it iv just learnt to sort of deal with it in my own way with out tablets.
But after reading on here iv actually sort of realized I’m not dealing with it I’m just living with it.
There so many peoples stories on here that I can relate to and it’s sort of scared me and hit home to me that I’m still not right.
I would like to know if anyone else on here has not taken tablets and has beaten it , or is it something I leave untreated I will just have to live with for the rest of my life or is it possible to beat it with out medication
I have struggled with anxiety for about 8 years and have never taken medication. I do, however, see a therapist who specializes in anxiety and I HIGHLY recommend seeing one. It helps me a lot, without seeing one I prob would have resorted to meds as well.
Everything I read or been told regarding anxiety and meds is that medication is only a temporary solution. You take them to get your mind set right and improve your current condition, but they're not meant for long term results. The only real long term solution is changing your mindset/thoughts and the way you react to the anxiety. This is exactly what a therapist is used for, and why I highly recommend seeing one if you haven't.
I used Psychology Today website to find one near me who took my insurance, etc. and that made it really easy. You may even have to try a few different therapists before u find one u really like.
As far as recovering/beating anxiety... In my own personal experience I don't believe anxiety ever fully leaves you. It may go into hiding for a while, but once a trigger happens like overload of stress or a traumatic event, it's right back out in the open unfortunately. I definitely have gotten used to it though over the years, and with the help of my therapist I've learned to counter it and cope with it so it doesn't effect me as much as it used to.
Thanks for the reply
Trouble is I don’t know what triggers it sometimes it’s just there and feel like it’s there for no reason at all and I haven’t seen anyone since I went to the doctors about 4 years ago , I’m not one for shareing things with the people around me i never have , I have always delt or thought I have delt with it on my own and that’s how it’s always been and how I feel more comfortable,
I have noticed over the last month or so I met someone and they notice things about me and actually say something to me about it but I seem to worm my way out of it and sort of pretend everything is ok or blame it on something else but I don’t know why I do that.
I had some issues with ptsd, and thought-hallucinations that were making me paranoid. I briefly tried some prescriptions that were horrible, made me feel like I couldn't think and made my jaw clench. I was desperate for something and I tried gemstone healing, which actually worked, but it took a couple years and lots of experimentation with different types of gems. I told this to someone on another thread, and multilple people didn't believe me or said it was placebo. But because I was trying many different things and the other things didn't work, and I didn't necessarily expect at first for the gemstones to work, that it was not. Also I could feel the effects and different stones had different effects. Most were not useful for my issues.
If you're curious to try it you can buy small lot sizes of rough gemstones from ebay or amazon. Usually they are not expensive. My issues are almost entirely gone, I am now functional when I was not before.
Having no reason for the nervousness and for it to come out of nowhere is part of having an anxiety issue. "Normal" people who experience anxiety have reasons for it, lots of stress with work/school, etc. The issue is when you are overly nervous or nervous for no reason, so if that's what you're having you're right on track as an anxiety sufferer haha.
And I understand what you mean about wanting to deal with things on your own and how you're more comfortable that way. I'm like that too, I don't like talking to people about my feelings and I hold things in a lot. But I think it's clear that at the moment that route is def not working for you, and that you need to talk to someone in order to feel better.
Also, therapists aren't always like what you see in the movies lol. They don't dig up your past and repeat "how do you feel about that" over and over. All I do in my sessions with mine is discuss how I am currently feeling physically/mentally, and actually just verbally expressing that stuff out loud makes me feel so much better. Bottling it up and not talking about it can give the fear its power and make it worse.
My brother took just 10mg a day propranolol and after a few weeks
gave him dangerous psychotic thoughts, you are right to be concerned
yoga and deep breathing ex, can make a big difference
everyone is different in reaction to medication,
you must read side effects and change medication
my brother changed to losartan potassium 25mg a day
60,000 under 18yr olds are now taking anti-depressant medication
that is an unacceptable level
