Is it normal for foot to continue to swell in the first 72hr?

I injured my ankle in a basketball practice. My ankle turned inwards by 90deg and locked back into its original position soon after that.

I applied ice pack on the swollen part immediately and the size was still quite small. It got bigger when I went to see the doctor the next morning, had

X-ray and CT done and the doctor said he saw no bone fracture, but reckoned I had a severe sprain due to a relatively large swell.

I came home with a sprint, and at night I noticed my foot swell even more, and today it still continues to swell even into 48 hr after the injury. It is quite scary to see the swell gets bigger, reaching the base of my toes (pinky) now.

I wonder if this is normal? When will it stop and decrease in size?

Can anybody shed some light on this please? I have no severe pain though, but I am taking pain killer and uses crutches, though I can still feel blood rushing to my foot if I stand up.

Any comments or suggestions will very highly appreciated.

I honestly don't know. I wish I had an answer for you- I would ask doc

Thanks Marge, I hope it will become smaller tomorrow.

Otherwise, I will have to see the doctor.

Hi w41pd

I feel you... pls elevate your ankle higher to reduce the swelling Thia will take some time don't strain yrself too much it will gradually go down. Keep applying ice pack to yr ankle. When I walk this swelling will swell and reduce its normal. Speedy recovery to you👍🏻

Thank you sri2179! I will do as you said, and will report back here of any improvement.
