Hi. Its been about 5 months since I had my ablation done for afib. I feel very blessed that I have not had any afib episodes since then. My doctor put me on flecainide and metoprolol and every so often I still feel mild irregular beats. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this so long after the ablation?
Interesting that after an ablation your doctor has prescribed flecainide and metroprolol. I have afib but have not had an ablation. There is no guarantee that an ablation will fix afib. The stats according to my cardiologist are that 70% of first ablations are successful so 30% will fail.
Hi, fortunately after a year on flecainide I am symptom free apart from raised BP, so have not had ablation. Hope you get some helpful responses.
It is common. Not all abalations are 100% succesful and I think there is always a rest period after the abalation where it takes some time for things to settle down. I had an ablation 9 years ago and it was declared succesful, but I still get palpitations quite often. For me, it's more a question of management than cure. My current symptoms are a vast improverment over my pre-abalation condition, and are perfectly manageable with just a tiny 2.5mg does of bisoprolol. My symptoms don't stop me doing anything and I just don't worry about them anymore. You may need another ablation if you feel you're lapsing back or if your current symptoms are not manageable without them causing you physical or emotional distress and/or drug side effects.
