Is it safe to go from 25 to 50 then back down to 25?

Hi, I'm a 19 year old college student & have been struggling with anxiety the past few months and just recently, was prescribed Zoloft at 25mg. My doctor told me if after 2 weeks, you don't feel like it's helping, up the dose to 50mg. So, just this past Monday night, I upped my dose to 50mg. This whole week, I felt worse. My sleep was improving at 25mg, but it got worse again, felt more anxious, etc. I told my doctor this, and she said that I can go back down to 25mg. So now, I really am unsure what to do tonight because honestly, today wasn't all that bad, I was pretty tired though (definitely better than earlier this week all day idk if it's the meds or being home for xmas break) & I know messing with the dosages can affect you, so it's not that I don't trust my doctor, I just wanted to gain some insight from someone who is experienced with taking Zoloft! I know Zoloft can take up to month to fully take effect, so I am just wondering if I should decrease the dose (because I would be going from 25 to 50, then back down to 25 all within a week), just keep it at 50 and give my body time to adjust, or maybe gradually decrease by cutting pills in half or something? Any advice would be great thank you so much!

Hi,

In my opinion if you can tolerate the side effects of the 50 I would stay on it.  I wasn’t able to tolerate the anxiety at 100 after 6 weeks, I have to switch to a different medicine.  If it is not too bad then I would definitely not go back down.  It does take like 6-8 weeks for side effects to go away, and to reach full effectiveness.  That’s what I’ve heard.  Good luck.

Hi

I'm on 25 for 2 and half weeks now and have had headaches and my anxiety has gone up the roof.. it only got bad after the first week even the anxiety, I've been told to stick it out I'm not going up for a while after feeling as crap as I do.
