Hello. Can anyone tell me if they have had no problems with this antibiotic?
I have been diagnosed with rosacea and over the last 12 months or so it's been pretty persistent and nasty - with some small spots/pustules. Lately it's been bad and my eye has been discoloured. I have been prescribed doxycycline, but am not sure about taking it. I'm wondering if I should look at creams first to see if I can control the symptoms. I've messed about with creams for sensitive skins but no improvement. I've just cut out caffeine and alcohol to see if any improvement occurs.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Hi Many years ago when my rosacea was bad I tried oxytetracyline but had side effects. During the menopausal years it was particularly bad going from just flushing to spots and pustules. This time I had a cause of erthyomycin (not sure if I have spelt that right). No trouble with this one. Fortunately after the menopause my skin improved greatly, but now my eyes are worse blepharitis and dry eyes. I did try a cream metra something but it made the skin worse. Alcohol
is a trigger as you probably know. I was told many years ago that also hot drinks
stress and some foods were triggers, possible oranges, and tomatoes and sadly
chocolate. Have you googled Rosacea. I think there is a society which might give you some ideas. Not sure what you mean about eye being discoloured. Hope you find some help, I know just what you ae going through. Take care.
Hi Thanks for feedback. I just thought I'd let you know the Doxycycline worked really well. I took it after my main meal with plenty of water and didn't have any side effects. I'm now not having caffeine and alcohol (bit miserable!!) and waiting to see if the effects last. Had a few blemishes which have gone, and will introduce alcohol a bit to see what happens!
Hi Susan, I was diagnosed with rosacea about 3 yrs ago and was prescibed Doxycycline. I took this religiously for about 2 yrs along with topical antibiotic cream but made not a bit of difference. In fact just got worse. I gave up caffiene and tomatoes to no avail. Surfing on the net I read an article that zinc tablets could help. I have been taking 30mg of zinc for about 10 days now and rosacea almost disappeared !! May not help everyone but worth a try. Chris
