Hi all, First post here. Long story short. I am from the Netherlands. About 10 days ago I was in Oman on a 4-day business trip. On the night of the last day I woke up feeling a bit unwell, vomitted a little, felt like a mild fever. Next day I rested at the hotel and flew back to the Netherlands. Next 2 days had a mild fever, 38C or less. Lots of green phlegm from back of nose and throat these 2 days. By day 4 fever was gone. Next 1-2 days felt better, less and less green phlegm. I was almost ready to go back to work at this point. 5 days ago I was unable to sleep the whole night. I felt some anxiety, i.e. tingling in chest etc... When I'm about to fall sleep I kind of forget to breath and wake myself up again. Next night I slept, but then the pattern repeats, one night I can sleep, next night I can't sleep. Now 3 sleepless nights in total. Tried nasal spray which didn't help. Now I'm feeling a lot anxiety about sleep and my health, and being paranoid about this Coronavirus watching the count going up and up. Now I feel completely drained with no energy. I have some clear phlegm but not that much. No fever. I went to the doctors 2 day ago and they said I would be fine and it's most likely just a flu/cold by a viral infection. My throat and lungs look good. So is it my anxiety? I'm very scared to go to bed now fearing I'll suffer another sleepless night! When I can't sleep I get all paranoid about my heart-rate etc... Any advice would be appreciated. Best regards, PS. When I arrived in Oman there was no Coronavirus cases reported, by the time I left there were 2 cases in Oman, and 1 case in the Netherlands. The number of cases in NL has since risen steeply to almost 200. This week I stayed at home, with a couple of short trips to the supermarket.
Hi Mkqq, So I wouldn’t worry about the COVID19, it is upper respiratory and your lungs are good and your fever is gone…viruses(like cold/flu remember there are lots of strains, all do a little different thing to your body)symptoms can linger for a while. Not sleeping properly can cause a bunch of issues…once you get some good sleep, you will feel better, don’t worry about your HR, it goes up and down depending on how you feel and what you’re doing, checking it all the time is causing anxiety, which equals no sleep!!you are going to be relaxing, read, have a bath, listen to music, if you’re still stuffed up a bit try sleeping propped up(not just your head but your upper body) lying down could make you feel like you cant breathe so you wake up, or try sleeping on your side with a pillow propped behind you…if you don’t have a partner, massage your feet, legs, shoulders, neck or have your partner do the work & return the fave when you feel better…do visual relaxation, you’re at a beach or fave place, focus on relaxing each body part, make your sleep area dark, comfy, and quiet…don’t get up once you’ve gone to bed except to go potty…put everything out of your mind…Best Wishes, if sleeplessness continues talk to your Dr, see what he suggests and somebody in this forum might have a great idea for you, keep checking!!![]()

Well last night I went to bed at 8pm because I was so exhausted from almost not sleeping the night before.
Was a slight struggle but fell asleep at 12am, went back to sleep and woke up at 4am and couldn’t sleep anymore.
When I’m lying there awake I do feel really anxious and really feel my heart pounding. The heart rate is not too fast, below 80, but I really feel it and that’s causing more anxiety. It also causes some nausea, as I think when you are stressed or anxious you struggle to digest food.
This morning I decided to get back to work to distract myself, otherwise I would feel worse at home thinking about it all the time with dark thoughts and being depressed.
I think it was the right decision. I started the day feeling really tired but by midday I feel gradually better.
Hopefully tonight is a normal evening and I get at least a few hours sleep.
