Is taking my Levothyroxine at night making me poorly?

Hi, I hope somebody can help me!

A few weeks ago I started taking my Levothyroxine before I go to bed instead of when I wake up, as I started taking extra vitamins that I thought might affect it. However, I don't know whether it is just a coincidence, but in the past couple of weeks I have started to feel fatigued and in the past few days I have been suffering from a sore throat, swollen glands in my neck, headaches, fever, dizziness and constipation. I also seem to feel either too hot or too cold, and my hands have been itchy and swelling up from time to time.

Before I go to the doctors or changing back to taking  my Levothyroxine in the morning, I just wondered if the same thing had happened to anybody else, and if it actually is a result of me changing the time I take my medication... please let me know if you have any advice or have gone through a similar experience!

I personally found taking levothyroxine before bed suited me more and my symptoms improved. This seems to be the case for a lot of people but obviously one size doesn't fit all. I take any supplements in the morning to prevent any interaction.

Hello SLM. As long as you’re taking your supplements at least four hours before or after the medication, you should be ok.

My experience was the medication  seemed to do better when taken at night. A split dose is another option- half in the morning, half at night.

It’s likely the cold weather has caught up with you, as many folks increase their thyroxin dose in the winter months. You may have been a little low the last few months due to the cold, but there’s a bit of a delayed reaction for the body. Hence you may be feeling the cumulative effects of the cold weather.

Hi. I tried swapping mine to evenings because I was cutting it fine in the morning. I felt awful. It made me really ill. Changed back to a.m. and 100% difference. I thk motto is it suits some and not others. Good luck
