I had my op 2 days ago and at first I thought that the pain was bearable,what I didn't know was that it hadn't even begun!
I have suffered with painful piles for many many years, I had them injected which eased them for a while the doctor at the hospital told me it was necessary for me to have surgery.
I prepared myself as best as I could by getting healthy. I ate a healthy diet and walked for an hour a day as well as working a 40 hour week.
But nothing prepares you for this. I have been in terrible pain all night, I passed my first motion in the early hours and the pain was so severe I was sick everywhere at the same time, which put a further strain on my bum. The pain since has been so intense that I don't know what to do with myself. I laid in the bath for half an hour which gave some relief but once out the pain was back.
I have paracetamol , ibuprofen and metronidazole but they aren't helping.
If anyone can advise me on what to do, what to take or even how to lay in a comfy position I would be so grateful.
So far I would say think long and hard before putting yourself through this but I will let you know if things improve.
Sorry to hear you are suffering. I just posted a walk thru giving pre and post op advise based on my experience. I am in my 4th week post op. Have a look there... Please let me know if any of it helps!
Paracetamol and ibuprofen are not enough. Metronidazole is not a pain killer. An opioid is a pain killer but it could do your BM more harm than good in terms of constipation if you take them often.
Natural pain releif such as sitz bath and fibre supplements to manage your BM's should be looked into
I am now 4 wks post op. I was prescribed tramadol in addition to what you were given.
I also took Macrogol laxative powder.
Nothing seemed to work for the pain. Time is the healer.it'll be worth it, stay strong.
Hi there, I know exactly how u feel, got this op 4 years ago and had no idea what was going to follow. Had to stay in hospital for three days after with pain. I had everything and nothing really helped. I had heard from a relative to get Voltarol , it's a strong anti inflamitory , so when I got home I asked my doctor fir it . It really helped with the pain and still use it now when required. Would definitely advise to get this. Unfortunately my problems came back and I'm am now due to go back but not for a haemorroidectomy, never again!! This time I'm getting THD Halo procedure which is much less evasive, no cutting so I hope it will be nothing like the last time (dreading it) but have already told the anethnatist that I want Voltarol after op. Good luck and it will get easier as each week passes.
