Is this a flare. ?

Hi everyone I have been very lucky to have been more or less crohns free for the last 5 years since my colonectomy. My symptoms before were mainly very frequent loose bowel movement and some stomach cramps. I had the operation due to strictures causing obstructions. I had been treated with steroids, methotrexate and Infliximab which hadn't helped much. For the last week or so I have felt very unwell, I have chills, pain in my legs, sore tongue and feel absolutely drained. My stomach is uncomfortable and I have had loose movements again. I had a blood test this morning so will have to wait for the results but I was wondering I this sounded like a flare ?

It could be but hard to say. Sounds a bit flu-like also.

Did you have colon completely removed or partial?

Are you still on some medication?

You may know more from the blood tests.

Good luck

Pete

Hi Pete yeah it is almost like flu symptoms but I'm sure it's not. I had a partial removal and the only medication I take is Questran which replaces bile salts . Hope the bloods only show a low iron or B12. I had a colonoscopy earlier in the year which showed inflammation at the site if the join so I'm worried this may be a flare. Thanks for you reply

It could possibly be a flare especially as your scope earlier this year showed inflammation. Surprised they didn't start some meds at that time to stop it getting any worse. Hopefully it is just one of the nasty bugs that seem to be going round at the moment. We've had one that seems to be a cross between flu and upset stomach.

If blood tests are OK I would still speak to my gastrointestinal Dr about some maintainance meds to stop the inflammation getting any worse.

Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

Thanks stickinsect I have had flu and stomach bugs in the past and this feels different and has got no better or worse for well over a week now. If the bloods show nothing I will go to GP and see what she suggests. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
