I haven't had a period in 5 years. 7 months ago I came off Clonazapam and experienced all the normal withdrawal symptoms; however, I continue to have recurrent bouts of insomnia and nausea. Many have suggested to me that it may be hormonal .... thoughts?
Most likely the insomnia may be related to low hormones, not sure about the nausea though. Were these symptoms you had while coming off of the Clonzapam? I don't know how you tapered off of them but I doubt at this point the meds have much to do with creating those symptoms, but I know they can alleviate them somewhat, but you are better off without them, and following Jay's recommended supplements.
Also meant to add, always good to have your doc rule any other issues that may be the cause of these symptoms before moving directly onto the supplements. Highly doubt anything sinister is going on, but always great to double check with doc! Wishing you well.

hi Debie
oh bless you hun, nausia never nice..
7 months should be a good amount of time to be free of Clonazapam in your system.
insomnia may be an affect menopause, but also maybe because you are not taking the Clonazapam.. Not too sure ..
nausea, if this is a problem ongoing, then I would see you doctor, and get some blood tests done..
are you on anything else new, like HRT or anything that could make you feel nausia .
think I would see the doctor Debbie ..

Hello - yes, doctor isn't sure himself what is causing the nausea. Possibly still withdrawing from Clonazapam but who knows. He wants to send me to a sleep specialist (again) even though I've tested negative for sleep apnea. I've been on 6 mg. Melatonin for 3 months now. Where can I get ginger tablets? Been drinking Ginger ale with green tea and it kind of helps.
Thank you for your response!
Hello - my doctor did suggest HRT. I'm going to see a sleep specialist first and go from there.
Thank you so much for your response!
Hi Debbie

Useful info.. Ginger tablets ..
Ginger is an herb.
The rhizome (underground stem) is used as a spice and also as a medicine. It can be used fresh, dried and powdered, or as a juice or oil.
Ginger is commonly used to treat various types of “stomach problems,” including motion sickness, morning sickness, colic, upset stomach, gas, diarrhea, nausea caused by cancer treatment, nausea and vomiting after surgery, as well as loss of appetite.
Other uses include pain relief from arthritis or muscle soreness, menstrual pain, upper respiratory tract infections, cough, and bronchitis.
Ginger is also sometimes used for chest pain, low back pain, and stomach pain.
Some people pour the fresh juice on their skin to treat burns.
The oil made from ginger is sometimes applied to the skin to relieve pain.
Hi Deb
have a good think about HRT as you are 5 years post meno..
you will replace all the hormones that have naturally declined, boosting them up and then when you stop HRT you will have peri menopause all over again, as the boosted hormones will go through the decline again..
i had a natural peri for ten years, post meno now .. Age 50
Vit B 6 has been my saviour, it helps no end .. I take many other supplements too specifically for menopause and i feel good now, get a blip day but overall feel great.
good luck hun

Vit B6 useful info..
B6 100mg daily .. And a B12 of 5000mcg daily
For a woman going through peri menopause / menopause, B-vitamins can be essential for effectively managing symptoms.
Adrenal fatigue, for example, is a common secondary condition for many women going through perimenopause.
B-vitamins support healthy adrenal function, along with calming and maintaining a healthy nervous system.
Many women also suffer with mood swings during perimenopause.
Both B12 and B6 vitamins aid in the production of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, a key brain chemical needed to stabilize moods and promote feelings of wellness and contentment.
For women who suffer with brain fog, and memory issues in perimenopause, low levels of B6 could be part of the problem.
Depression, confusion, and an inability to concentrate are all associated with B6 deficiency. Vertigo, dizziness, and heart palpitations are also common complaints from women going through perimenopause.
All of these symptoms have been associated with (among other things) a B12 deficiency.
Vitamin B6 can also help with stubborn weight gain in perimenopause. It is key in the breakdown and utilization of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins in our diet, and is necessary for a healthy metabolism - both which can help manage weight.
Wow, lots of info. I appreciate it so very much. I'll look into getting me some ginger tablets.
Thanks and God bless!
I had someone else here in the office tell me that B vitamin supplements helped her with insomnia. I will definately give it a try as well. I'm all for natural supplements, in no way do I want to go back on a prescription drug.
Thank you sooooo much for your reply!
Also, I'm 56 and haven't had a period in 5 years. I don't think I am perimenopause, more like postmenopause.
Hi Deb

Jay I am trying to wean off HRT, so I am assuming it would benefit me to start taking these vitamins, any other suggestions? I am down to 5 pills a week and have some symptoms, anxiety being the most troublesome. I have been taking the HRT five years now, am age 58. I started weaning in August.
Hi Loretta
Yes B6 as i put on this post benefits menopausal and post menopausal, your peri will begin again after HRT .. It only postpones peri .. 😫
get a good 100mg B6 as any less isnt worth taking ..
or a Busy B complex or mega b 100 time release complex from holland and barret or other store ..
These contain 100 mg of B6 ..plus other vital B's ..
i take 150mg B6 on its own .. And B12 ..
I am post meno though and had a natural peri with supplements ..
Vit E 400iu very good too ..
also think about Natecal ( Vit D and Calcium in one ) for bones
Solgar Chelated Magnesium ( bisglycinate)
i also take other things .. And Maca 5.1
