My husband aged 84 is suffering from dementia. I am told by our GP that it is vascular dementia. He is getting worse almost daily and I worry that it might be alzheimers.
Is there a differnce?

Yes a huge difference ..Vascular Dementia is Not Alzheimer's per say ..Alzheimer's starts around late 40's and is a hereditary condition.. Could be what is commonly known as Senile Dementia.. Caused by narrowing of the circulatory system viens & arteries feeding the brain, affects the messages interpreted. 84 is elderly and is not unusual to sufer ischaemic attacks first like little fits..or blank episodes. Can be helped and improved with medication..
I don't no what is what but my sister is 67 and we were told. A year ago that she had early alziamers and that was. A great shock to us but has gone down 4points already ,she walks like a old. Sorry Shirley it is a horrid condition when it takes hold of a normal once functioning human .it has no choices it strikes the most intelligent of people and reduces them to a mere baby in ability.
Thank you so much. That has put my mind at rest.
