I have problems with my breathing. It can come on all of a sudden where I just feel like my chest is being sat on or squeezed and I feel like I can't breathe but when I check my oxygen saturation it's normal and I check my blood pressure and it's normal to. I have a cardiologist and he has ran numerous checks on my heart. So I know it's not heart-related. And my asthma doctor did a pulmonary function test and it was actually better than it had been the previous test so I know it's not that. I even spent four days in the hospital under observation because of this. So I've exhausted all physical maladies that I can think of. And my doctors have decided it is an anxiety disorder. They think I'm having an anxiety attack. I could accept this diagnosis but everything I read online about anxiety attacks says that during an anxiety attack you also sweat and you are fearful and your heart beats fast. I have none of those symptoms at all during these attacks. So my question to everyone out there in your opinion or and your experience have you ever heard or had an anxiety attack that only involves breathing?
Absolutely! Anxiety is a crazy thing. It can cause breathing only symptoms, breathing and rapid heartbeat, just a rapid heartbeat alone and many other symptoms.
I have had the breathing only symptom where I feel like something was placed on my chest and I can't get enough air in. Actually I get it quite frequently. Many people have that happen.
i'm going to share something that may help you with this.
It's called "mindfulness breathing guided meditation 10 minutes ". Listen to it carefully. It teaches you the proper way to breathe when you're having any symptoms. It's important to know and to remember. It has helped me very much.
mindfulness is a technique that has been taught all over the world and has been used for thousands of years. The main thing is that it keep you in the present moment and away from focusing on your symptom. When you think too much about the symptoms, they actually get worse. When your anxious, , your brain sends out adrenaline that can cause many symptoms. The key is to calm down the mind so that your symptoms calm down. The symptoms are not a problem. The problem is that many people don't know how to manage the anxiety.
there are also some excellent other meditations on YouTube for anxiety, sleep, depression, whatever you want. I like one called detachment from overthinking. And another one for relaxation is called mindfulness meditation for relaxation by Glenn. It has a blue background with a tree in the middle.
you will be fine. Your tests were normal. Just need to practice on anxiety management. 😀❤️
Hi I can relate to everything you are saying I am booked for a lung test on Friday even do I have had this before I focus on my breathing and out of nowhere I start having breathing difficulties it is so in my head I just panic anxiety is a real pain in the ass
Thank you for your advice. I have actually done biofeedback in the past which is very similar to guided meditation. In fact I think it's pretty much the same thing. I got very good at it and was even able to change my temperature. But that was many years ago. Now I live with chronic pain and one of the things they suggest is mindfulness to help take your mind away from the pain. Personally I think that trying to control your pain that way is pointless and impossible. I mean if you're hurting and you are out somewhere it's not like you can stop and be mindful for a few hours or however long the pain last which could be all day. However I do like guided meditation to help me to get to sleep at night. And I have a couple of "tapes" if you will, on my tablet. But I will look for the ones that you're suggesting for the mindfulness anxiety.
