Is this another sign of anxiety?

Hello guys, so I've been dealing w severe anxiety for a long time now and wanted to double check a symptom with you guys.

So I have noticed that if I overwork my brain weather it being studying for an exam or being on the computer too long I start to feel like I can't Control my thoughts. This also happens if I stay awake without sleep for too long. What I mean by I can't Control my thoughts is that my thoughts start racing and I will think up the randomest things such as "have you turned on the the water bucket" literally thoughts that don't make sense or a quote or conversation from a movie I saw. This only happens when I'm really tired like the two cases mentioned above. No, i Don't find myself having conversations in my head. But when I catch myself in a thought like that it freaks me out and I start to think I'm going nuts. Any of you experiance this or know if this is normal?

I think that symptom is perfectly normal almost as lake in the OCD and obsessive thing. Like for me I do the same thing like obsess about certain hands or feelings I'm having so I have mild OCD because I don't have to touch things like 6 times before I use them. but yeah to me it just sounds like normal symptoms of anxiety where you stay up at night obsessing over things that don't need to be obsessed over. Cuz I do it all the time. just about different things drawn

I don't necesarily obsess over something, in fact those thoughts come really out of the blue. If that makes any sense. Especially as my brain is dozing off to sleep.

Yea I do much of the same. At night my mind races. I would bring it up to your doctor. Are you seeing a therapist or anything or on any meds??

I've seen a psychiatrist and psychologist but stopped bc university work is too demanding. I am just on Ativan.

I'm on klonopin which is the save family of benzos. And it works wonders for me. Maybe you need to up the dosage

I'm cutting down on it. sad I've been on it too long. December marks  1 year.

yeah I've been on Klonopin for 4 years and each year due to tolerance issues I get an increase of one milligram to get the same releif I' that I used to when I was originally prescribed.

In your experiance, these fuzzy thoughts are normal though?

I personally think so. But it also can be a byproduct of stress like you said when you get overworked that your mind is being stimulated constantly and then when it should be at rest its not it continues to be very active and since its active but not on anything like a certain task like studying for an exam it just starts picking apart other things. So I might not exactly be a symptom from your anxiety but just one from stress and all that. Does that make sense

Yea it does thank you. I do feel that it only happens under alot of stress. because if I take a small nap I'll be fine upon waking. I'm sure if it was something horrible it would happen constantly, no?

It has never to happened me, but I think it is just an anxiety. You should learn how to fight this, because your mind is strong and it can overtake your feelings. Remember, you should be the one to hold yourself down, not your mind.. be strong, and stay positive.

Hi Emilia, I don't think this is anything to worry about, it's not anxiety related at all, it's just what happens when you get tired. I have a friend who's studying medicine, she's just generally a very quick thinker and she's super rational. Anyway I've seen her after she's been studying all night or something (she's studies for like 15hour straight sometimes with only a few 5-10min breaks in between, weirdo) and she literally can't string together a clear sentence (or I’m assuming thought) afterwards. And this is someone who doesn't and has never suffered from any kind of mental health issue at all. Also I can't even count the amount of times she's poured hot water over her muesli instead of into the mug with a tea bag in it.

So this is nothing to worry about, it just means you need some sleep! ; )

Anya

I also thought I'd point out, I do also know what you mean personally, my mind gets a little foggy and 'trippy' after being awake for too long but I thought I'd tell you about my friend because she's much better at pushing herself to the place where her mind is literally non-functional (she comes up with the weirdest things sometimes!!) and then she's back to being totally fine and back to her normal sharp self after a good sleep : )

I also experience this, i personally think that having racing thoughts is just a tell tale sign of panic, when you panic you 'cant control your thoughts' or so i hear. i get this also, very very often, i am always tense and on edge and so my thoughts are often sporadic. Dont panic to much just try spending less time watching screens and more time exercising and sleeping

Thank you for the incouraging words. smile

Ty Anya for your support and comforting words. I am glad to hear that this is normal. I've been putting a lot into university lately because it's my senior year and the classes are so demanding. Not to mention I failed a class so now I overwork myself so it won't ever happen again. sad But as soon as I'm out of school I dont plan on overworking myself to this point. smile As for your friend, I feel that when I'm at the point of not stringing together sentances, my brain can't collect any more information so thats about when I give in to sleep. hehe.

Ty for your suggestions. I completely understand what you mean by "try spending less time watching screens." I feel that that's when it's worse, and in todays society even studying is done with screens because we have electronic books... Hopefully it'll get better I'm a senior so after a while logner I no longer have to stress for school. smile

Hi Emilia

I have had thoughts like that for years, I don't think it's anything to worry about.  Think about what happens when you dream -- it seems to make perfect sense while you are still dreaming, and then as soon as you wake up, you think "What on earth was that all about?"  I think some of us just get dream-thoughts while we are still awake -- and it would make sense if you are overworked and very tired.

I don't know what you are studying, but try looking up Surrealist art online.  Those people used their irrational thoughts to make art!  So it can actually be the basis of something positive!

Hi, Thank you so much for your reassuring words. It is nice to know I'm not alone in this. :P In fact this seems pretty common and I wouldnt be surprised if it wasn't normal for most people, but a lot of people don't realize it or pay little attention to it. I feel that people like me, who suffer from anxiety, will notice every little detail and sensation of life. Like my psychologist told me, he said that the problem with me is that I am more aware of myself then the regular person. I think this self awarness is also why I might notice stuff like that.

ps. I'm not studying art but I am an artist! :D
