Is this brain tumour or anxiety? Pls help :(

Hello, I am 16 years old and a hypochondriac.

On Sunday I began to worry in earnest about a brain tumour (in place of fear of heart attack), and that night I thought that my vision was blurring. My GP told me to go to an optician, who said that there were no changes in pressure or signs of a tumour in the retina. Here r my symptoms:

-Headache (tension-like) on the right side of the head which is relieved briefly when feeling very calm, but on the whole seems to have gotten worse a little bit, but am unsure if this is my imagination or due to increasing anxiety.

- Occasional neck stiffness accompanying the headaches

-Tinnitus/ ringing ears

-Some nausea since Thursday

The eyesight difficulty seems to have gone away entirely. The GP said he is really certain that I do not have a brain tumour, but am a bit terrified and considering trying to ask for an MRI scan for some peace of mind. ..

I forgot to say that I did experience something quite like a migraine aura on Wednesday morning

Hi, sounds like classic health anxiety symptoms. You've had some basic checks which gives you the all clear. Your GP needs to be treating you for anxiety.

A gp won't give you an MRI scan to ease your mind, only if they think it's needed - which they don't, take comfort in that

You have anxiety symptoms. You really need to get treatment for that.Trust me you have no symptoms of a brain tumor.

thank u!!!

thank u so much, i am due for psychiatric help in october so all will be well i think

I forgot to mention also that even when I am calm it can come on quite vigorously, I'm not sure if it is my subconscious tho. It's all terribly random except for when I feel exceptionally calm, this usually ameliorates the pressure

I'm not really worried abt the pain as much as I am scared of any forthcoming developments

Thank u for all of ur replies!!! I am so reassured

Your not likely to be given an MRI by your GP unless he/she feels it's medically necessary as they are very expensive.

It does not sound like you have a brain tumor but does sound like classic health anxiety. Perhaps talk to your GP about ways to manage it with either therapy, meds or a combination of the two. Health anxiety is rough but it can be managed.
