Im a 36 year old female with a long history of anxiety /depression and OCD. Sorry if this is TMI for some of you but after I stopped breastfeeding my 3 yr old (about 2 yrs ago) I noticed that I can still get a small amount of that watery milky stuff (assuming breastmilk) to come out if I squeeze. About 2 months ago I almost obsessively started to squeeze them to see if stuff would still come out. One night I noticed the milky stuff was stained a little with blood and that only came out of one milk duct. I instantly put myself in to a panic attack. I went and saw my dr and she gave me a thorough breast exam and didn’t find anything abnormal. She did put an order in for a mammogram and ultrasound. When I had the mammogram done they did find a small area under my nipple that they wanted to look at closer so thats when I had the ultrasound done. After the tech and the radiologist both got multiple images the findings were a “Slighty Prominent Duct” which in regular terms was a clogged milk duct. The radiologist went over the findings and said everything was benign. Which I felt relief but now I’m finding myself second guessing if that is accurate. I know I should trust the all the exams and tests and what the drs said. But my brain is constantly saying “what if”? Is this health anxiety (hypochondria)?
even before you said it was a plugged milk duct, that’s exactly what I was thinking was going on. Please please don’t overthink this. Plugged milk ducts are very common. I had one myself years ago after I stopped breast-feeding. you had a mammogram and ultrasound. overthinking is going to make you extremely miserable for nothing. radiologist know how to read the mammogram and you need to trust that.
we could all say what if about anything. with anxiety, the brain automatically goes to very negative thinking. You need to get control of it and stay positive and just be happy that it was just a plugged milk duct.
there are some great meditations on YouTube for overthinking and anxiety. you’re fine! enjoy your baby! They grow up too fast.
