Hi all,
The accounts here seem more serious than mine, I wish you all a recovery and victory in your battle.
I am a 44 year old male. I hope someone recognises this as I'm at my wits end here. I live in Spain and the doctors have not found anything other than HeliPylori infection after a stomache camera exam and scrape sample a year ago (after taking antibiotics to address the suspected infection). I definitely drink too much, but have stopped completely very recently as I feel its got out of hand. I never drink spirits, just lager, my weight is 220lbs at 6ft so I could do to lose 40 lbs. I am fairly active, I bike regularly and swim, although lately I have lost my drive for all these things. I dont eat sweets, and my diet is 50% very healthy and 50% unhealthy, takeaway etc. My problem started 2 years ago after a very heavy night of takeaway and lots of beer, I had been hitting it hard. I woke up with pains like a blockage on my right hand side below the rib cage and holes in my central vision (I literally had to pull over from driving), terrible headaches which I never get normally. After research online I found what I thought fitted, and open ulcer with substances entering the blood stream. I went to the hospital as my bowel movements stopped 90% , and also went off food for a month as I felt my stomache just wasn't digesting, in fact it was completely silent, just a constant ache. xrays showed my stomache was lieterally full of food, but nothing else. I was given an anema, and nothing came out, so all the food was at the top half of my stomache, an MRI and sound scan revealed the liver appered normal. Blood tests didn't seem to indicate anything other than a high cholestrol level. Literally my stomache went silent, no digestion sounds at all. If I ate salad, it passed undigested very quickly, but meat just stayed.
After a month of not drinking, and little food, and a weightloss of about 15 kilos, I went on a course of antibiotics to treat the suspected ulcer. Almost immediately I could go to loo again, but within a week of stopping the antibiotics, symptoms returned, but not so severe.
Two years later my bowel movements are still mainly diarhea, colours ranging from dark to light, and unpleasant smelling. I am certainly depressed. My hair is thinning and falling out in a non male baldness fashion, and has diffused whitening and falling out.Recently My nails have lost their half moons on the smaller fingers, but otherwise seem ok. But the ache in my side in the liver area is back full on, lower ribs, going round to the back. I am going to do a month of vegetable juicing to give my digestion an overhall, but I am sure its my liver.. thanks for reading, so its so long!
