Sorry, haven't been on here in awhile, the never ending ankle injury has been keeping me busy. Getting ready to have another surgery.
I just wanted to check in and see how everyone was doing.

So what kind of ankle surgery did u have? And how long ago was it
My first surgery was to repair my broken ankle. Then I developed CRPS in that foot and ankle, now I find out that my ankle never healed. It has been almost 9 months and 2 or orthos. Now they are going to remove hardware, clean up bones, do bone grafts, and lengthen my achilles. Hoping I will be able to walk, but no guarantees.
Well that sounds pretty lousy I know about bad ankles whatever u do don't get replacement surgery it ruined my life
OMG! Best wishes for much better outcome with ur next surgery.
I have been told that by several people, including my doctor. I am hoping that this surgery works. I want to walk so badly.
Yeah I know how that feels I can walk but I limp some and am in a little pain but I keep trying
Yeah well I am not looking forward to that but we do what we must
I am so jealous lol. Check this out, they had me going to PT twice a week. They were pulling and tugging on my foot and ankle, had me trying to walk with a cane.....with broken bones in my ankle. I was so miserable and everyone kept telling me the pain was normal.
That's what happened to me also broken tibulia
Yes we do.
Wow! I am so sorry.
Sorry to hear about other surgery, hang in and do what they say
Thank you and I will.
It just seems to me that someone should be accountable ( i.e. Ortho surgeon ) for my ankle not working correctly. He told me it would be three months and I would be back to normal working and doing what I use to do seems like a crime. Maybe I am just venting
You have every right to be angry. I am angry as hell.
The problem is me being angry doesn't help anything
No, it doesn't. However, it is a normal emotion that you have to work through.
LeLe, I had RT Ankle ORIG with plate 11 screws on 3/15, then removal of snde screw on 5/16, NWB whole time. Once started weight bearing at 12 weeks I had very difficult time, burning, pins/needles and other odd severe nerve sensation pain as well as other deep aching pain and inability to put pressue on front of foot. Last month at a bit over 5 mo's I insisted on MRI, cause I was not feeling any improvement. When I reviewed with him he said he told me of several issues and was leaning toward a CRPS diagnosis and referred me to neurologist. I scheduled the appt. but two months out, not till Sept 8 due to new patient wait time. I went for a follow up to OS yesterday after one month. He said he 'is' diagnosing me with RSD/CRPS but he does not prescribe meds for that, so that's why he is sending me to neurologist .. for confirmation and treatment. So a 2 mo wait time for treatment (I don't get it, thought this was a serious thing, the pain is spreading up my leg?). He said he has no idea how long it will take to resolve and there is nothing more he can do. Said my foot & nerve pain is all due to the RSD, everything mechanically in foot is good. I have complained greatly about hardware discomfort but he won't even discuss removal till after a year. But what about the MRI I said? He says the completely torn ATFL, strained PTFL, Achilles tendon tendinitis, inflammation in talus calcaneus navicular & tarsal bones as well ankle joint & subtalar joint effusion (tissue swelling) that was identified could be an old injury that was damaged long before my fall (Is this guy serious, I had no symptoms whatsoever prior to my accident and THAT IS NOT WHAT HE SAID LAST MONTH WHEN HE SAID TO BACK OFF SOME ON PT AND NOT EVEN TRY TO STAND ON TIP TOES BECAUSE IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE UNTIL HEALING OF THESE ISSUES)!! So yesterday he said to ignore the MRI and keep on with PT and come back in 3 months??? The pain I'm having 6 months out is not normal and PT seems to only exhasperate things. I'm even thinking the extreme methods they had me doing 2X weekly with stretching, etc. may have caused some of the issues that showed up in the MRI. He also does not do ankle braces, if I think I need one I'm on my own with Walgreen's. He also did a 'plain' hip xray due to my insistence (having trouble doing PT due to hip pain same leg as ankle injury). As soon as he reviewed came in to office and said I have severe arthritis and the only thing he could do for me is a 'total hip replacement.' I DON'T THINK SO!!! Other then during the ankle surgery of course, he has 'never' even touched my ankle (even at my very first appt, prior to surgery), nor did he ask me to walk or examine my ankle/foot or hip yesterday. He stared at the floor the whole time talking to me. I don't know how I stayed with him for these 6 long months. I am making an appointment for a 2nd opinion on my ankle and hip today!! Is this 'bat sh%t crazy' or is it me that is the crazy one? Even if he is correct that I need a THR at some point in the future, I just think there are other things we could try first before jumping to another major surgery, especially with a CRPS diagnosis?? I obviously have no rapport with this guy and need to be with a doctor I trust. PLEASE TELL ME I'M NOT CRAZY AND DOING THE RIGHT THING TO GET A 2ND OPINION. I guess I'm a bit angry too. I am tramatized by this whole thing. You have been through so much I surely hope you get some relief with this add'l surgery. Did your OS diagnose the CRPS and what treatment have you had and have you had any relief of those symptoms?? Any suggestions for me?
First of all, find a new ortho. My old ortho never examined my foot, just looked at it and xrays. He initially diagnosed my crps/RSD and started me on Lyrica and amitriptolyne. Workmans comp then sent me to a doctor to confirm the diagnosis. I now see a physiatrist, he has me on Lyrica, amitriptolyne, celebrity, lidocaine ointment, and pennsaid. Plus he does blocks every couple of weeks. Start taking 2000 MG vitamin C everyday, helps with crps. Stay away from ice on your ankle/foot. Ice can cause it to spread. A heated towel helps some with the pain.
It is a serious condition, but unfortunately their are a lot of people in the medical field that don't know much about it. Read everything you can find, educating yourself is the best thing you can do. You can be as angry as you want, this changes your life. If you want, I can send you my contact info. I know very well how you are feeling and I know how lonely it can be.
