Itchy for most of the time, and pain when wearing shoes

My dad's foot has been starting to itch since yesterday and it's quite painful when he was wearing his shoes today. My dad said that he did not injure himself or knock into some object and he has no history of high blood pressure/cholesterol or diabetes etc.

What could be the cause? Infection?

Hope you could help me, a million thanks in advance.

Hi

If that is a picture of your fathers foot its appears as if he as some

Infection there & a visit to the doctor is advisable a.s.a.p. It looks like

cellulitus (inflammation of the cells) or something similar.

Best of luck I hope its sorted soon.

Hi Carol, it certainly sounds as though he has celulitis, ( an infection just under the skin ) he needs to see a doctor as soon as possible as it spreads very quickly.. he needs high dose antibiotics and protection of his foot.... it is easily caused by a small scratch or something similar.... I had a blister. On my heel and the celulitis spread all the way up my leg, ( you then need an injection of antibiotics, and to be put on a drip ) please try to make sure that he sees a doctor this evening, or if they are closed and his foot is still the same, he will need !!! To go to casualty, he cannot leave this.... I wish you both all the very best.... sincere regards to you, Deirdre xx

Send me a pic. of his foot.Is he a diabetic?Could be an infection.Diabetics have to take really good care of their feet.

Looks like phlebitis, inflamation of the veins of the foot.Fairly common.Treatment with NSAIDS,possibly a short course of antibiotics.Bathe the foot in Epson Salts daily.Elevate the foot when lying down for a kip.Moving around is very importaint. He might also benefit from compression scocks once this clears up.
