Good morning all my hippy friends across the pond.Just got in from my first walk of the day. It is a beautiful spring morning and my leg is working pretty darn good. The birds are out singing, the squirrels are out doing what squirrel's do, even saw a big fat groundhog. I walked further than yesterday, no more cane and all is going very well with my recovery now in my 7th week. Thigh isn't so stiff this morning
( that's a good thing ) So to everyone in their various stages of recovery there really is light at the end of the tunnel.
Hellooooo. What a lovely uplifting post 😊. I'm only just out of hospital 4 days ago. When did you start going for proper little walks outside ?
Go for it Susan! I'm sitting waiting for a lift to take me to my consultant appointment.
Strangely feel really nervous. No idea why that is ..
Best

Hello Susan greetings from London. Week 5+ for me and still taking 2 supports while out. Today the sun is shining and I walked along the river bank. Mostly wild fowl and a swan sitting on best with partner keeping watch
Enjoy your day
Hi Joe, my very first walk outside was not very scenic, haha,I went to the grocery store and that was a three weeks. I had just stopped using the walker and moved on to using a cane for support. After that green grocer trip I began walking every day. It was just short walks at first up and down the street then increasing the distance each week. I am now in week 7 of my recovery and I really think walking is the best exercise you can do not to mention just being outside in the fresh air is good for your emotional well being. Best advice take it slow and sure. It does get better just have to be patient and don't compare your recovery progress to anyone else's.
Sounds beautiful Ann, I think my turning point came at about week 5. My walking got a lot better, my leg felt stronger and yes I do still get stiff and sore of I push the limit but even that isn't as bad as my first few weeks.
I was nervous to but when my Doctor said I was doing very well that are me breath a sigh of relief. Fingers crossed for a good check up for you.
Thankyou for your reply ☺ ☺☺☺
Hi Susan .... did my walk early this morning - meadows were still coverd with frost - I am 6 weeks post-op and still using my walker ... it sort of helps me correct my posture while walking -
I love this forum ....
Hi Susan, so happy for you, enjoy your news hip and life.
I am just over 3 weeks post op, walking with one crutch but the stiffness is so frustrating..when will it stop restricting me taking proper steps?
I still get stiff and a bit sore but it is not as bad as the early days. After each walk or exercise routine, I do that twice a day, I sit relax and use the ice bag. I have pain meds if I need them.
Hi Susan , sounds like you are doing really well there ,walking is the best thing we can do . I am six weeks post op having had a double hip replacement and I went shopping with my very kind neighbor today with one crutch . Still get abit of stiffness but going for a walk eases that . Just being out in the fresh air is good for you and the weather here in Mid Wales has been good lately , a bit colder now . You sound like a very psitive lady and I think that really helps . We live quite high up here in Wales and the thoiught of walking the hills again with my dogs is keeping me going , At 50 yeras old I should be doing these things no problem , keep up the good work Susan , well done , Ruth
Did you have any PT sessions?
Well done Ruth, after having a double hip replacement and going shopping at 6 weeks.
You will be walking your dogs in the hills very soon I'm sure.
Well done Susan, isn't it a lovely feeling when you can walk again without any support.
Great news Susan and all going well for you. Thanks for keeping us informed as is a great tonic for everyone to pull through difficult moments. Have you any vacations in mind ? Lovely to feel he sun and fresh air so pain free and quality of life back. You deserve it. X
Yes the first month a physical therapist came to my home 3 dAys a week. Thank goodness my insurance covered that. At the end of one monthI I continued with the exercises they gave me and just increased my daily walks to 3 times a day. Seems to be working for me.
Thanks Ruth, I really think the walking is the best exercise you can do it keeps my leg from stiffening up after sitting I just have to get up and move
It does. I think I hit my turning point at 5 weeks. My leg just felt stronger. Yes it still gets stiff and sore but I ice bag it. I started slowly in the house to practice walking without the cAne. Baby steps at first holding on to things, day by day I worked on my posture and tried not to limp , it was grueling work bit now at 7 weeks I walk with no came and no limp.
Hmm vacation I have to go back to work June 8th I don't think my boss will be approving any vacation time for a while after being out for 3 months But I can hope haha
